Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that the T2 tram line, which is eagerly awaited by Bursa residents, will start service in mid-July.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş was the guest of the Weekend program presented by Hakan Çelik on CNN Türk. While Aktaş was answering Çelik's questions, he talked about the investments made in Bursa and the projects to be implemented. Aktaş also gave information about the projects that will improve the ongoing public transportation network.

T2 goes into service in July

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who said that the T9 line, which will have a total length of 445 meters and 11 stations, whose test drives are continuing, will be put into service in July, "New lines are put into operation, especially new studies related to rail systems transportation are being carried out. Test drives have started on T2. As of mid-July, full-time departures will begin. On the one hand, when we make revisions about buses…

“Transition time between two stops decreased to 2,5 minutes”

We made an optimization. It was the transition time between two stops every 6 minutes. We reduced this to 2,5 minutes. This means that we have increased the capacity of metro lines. We have now turned into a local government that can comfortably carry 1 million people a day.” he said.

“The necessity of the rail system is an inevitable reality”

Aktaş, who gave detailed information about T2, which came to the last stage, used the following statements:

“T2 is a work that started during the time of my predecessor. The tender was very slow in November 2017. I attracted the contractor. The city is also debating whether T2 is needed.

There were those who said it was not necessary. Our new courthouse facility was built in that region, our science and technology center, our Bursa Textile Trade Center, our construction sites, our mufti office, our police station, our fairground…

All in the northern part of the city. In fact, the necessity of the rail system is an inevitable reality, but it has to be put into use as soon as possible. I pulled the contractor, he said he would finish it as of August 2018, when we put forward the payment plan.

“I terminated the tender when it became clear that he would not be able to complete it”

Eventually the process started and within a few months it became clear that he couldn't. I terminated the tender because the time was running out on the way to the local elections. And we bid again. We started test drives last month with an additional investment of 350 million.

“It will be integrated with T1”

I'm declaring it here. Our fellow citizens from Bursa know, but this 1 km line, integrated into T9,5, will start service as of mid-July with 11 stations.”
