Transformation took place in the city with President Soyer

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerİzmir Atatürk High School Alumni Association President Murat Saraç stated that there was a transformation in the city after he took office and said, “We have been seeing a change and differentiation since you came here. A different trace is left with the Cittaslow approach. There is a mayor who goes to his office by bicycle, we have a municipality that is environmentally friendly, uses electric vehicles and collects rain water.” Saraç asked President Soyer what kind of mark he wanted to leave and the difficulties they faced.

“Something about giving up on yourself a little bit to leave a mark”

Answering Saraç's question, the Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer“The most important difference that separates us from living creatures in nature is our determination to leave a trace. We don't want to go. We want to leave a mark somehow. It's an instinctive thing. Something that other creatures do not have. Leaving a mark is just about giving up a little bit of ourselves. Only then do you start to leave a mark. When you start to leave a little bit of your own time, energy, hobbies and loved ones, then you start to leave a trace about the society, city and country you belong to. Everyone leaves a mark. We all leave memories. As they say, a person dies only when the last person who remembers him dies. Take Hanri Benazus, for example. It leaves such a mark. His name will continue long after. Because the most beautiful thing that makes Mustafa Kemal Atatürk live is his
He is the one who takes care of his memory the most and follows in his footsteps, and that's why the mark he left is a huge one. I hope all of us will be lucky enough to leave a mark on this land," he said.

“We live at a level of life that no one on this land deserves”

In his speech, the President also talked about the ancient culture of the country. Tunç Soyer“Our aim is to build the future. How? By feeding off that ancient culture. We live on a level of life that no one on this land deserves. It's possible otherwise. This is not destiny. We live some things like an obligation, like destiny. No. Everyone living in the most fertile lands of the world, in the most beautiful climate zone in the world, in the lands that have hosted the world's most rooted civilizations, can experience much better. This picture we live in is the result of wrong policies, wrong policies and some deliberate choices. But a destiny is not an obligation. It is possible to change this. How? Again, following those tracks. There are many reasons that unite us much more than the reasons that separate us from each other. When we will understand the reasons that unite them and take care of them tightly, then it will be possible to build another future.”

“We are the first people to see the second century of the republic”

Reminding Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's struggle on these lands 100 years ago, President Soyer continued his words as follows: “We call İzmir the city of liberation and establishment. Why is that? Because September 9 is not only the liberation of Izmir, but also the liberation of Anatolia. Why do we call it the city of the establishment? Because İzmir hosted the Economics Congress, one of the most fundamental milestones of the republic. What is Economics Congress? In a burned and destroyed geography, in a city that was occupied for 3 and a half years, when Istanbul was under occupation, before the republic was established, before the Lausanne Peace Agreement was signed, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk has a republic in mind, he is working to determine his economic policies. It gathers 135 delegates from all over Anatolia. Between February 17 and March 3, 1922, he negotiated economic policies with the delegates he gathered. It is built with a common mind. From Sümerbank to sugar factories, to the abolition of the tithe, the economic policies that allow the establishment of a self-sufficient economy and the establishment of an independent state are decided at that economics congress in İzmir. That's why we call İzmir the city of the establishment at the same time. What is on us? Today is the anniversary of the death of our mother Zübeyde. We commemorated the one and only commemoration of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who left this great story to us. Ataturk's legacy KarşıyakaWe are in Izmir. Just as we are going to protect it to the end, we have to protect the republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and its virtues and its values until the end. That Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades in arms, our heroic ancestors are our elders who gave their lives so that we could live in peace on this land. It is our obligation, our duty to keep their memory alive to the fullest. We are the first people to see the second century of the republic. I am the first mayor of the second century. Just as I am proud of this, I am also aware of the great responsibility this pride brings. It is an obligation to carry that republic into the second century, that is, to crown the republic with democracy. To do this, we will continue to work hard to leave a mark. Rest assured, another Turkey is possible. It is possible for all of us to live in peace, hand in hand, with good health and smiling faces in this land. It is possible for per capita income to rise to a completely different point. Justice, rule of law, peace is possible. It is possible to establish human relations with each other. It is possible to live in peace without insulting or blaming. We need to protect the republic and its virtues that made all this possible. I'm a little skeptical if we've done enough of this so far. But if we don't do it now, it's too late."

“We emphasize the human factor in all our works”

EBSO Chairman of the Board Ender Yorgancılar said, “This republic will live for hundreds and thousands of years. There is no reason why we should not develop with the combination of reason and love, using that mind correctly, finding a common mind, with our right, not yours. Our panel has the theme of being hand in hand in the future. Why tomorrow? Why couldn't we do this yesterday and can't do it today? We all gonna die. It's important to leave a mark in life. For this, we bring the human factor to the forefront in all our works.”

"Tunç Soyer also a name that left a mark in İzmir”

Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, who could not attend the panel because he fell and was injured while taking a book from the shelf Dr. Conveying the greetings of Yılmaz Büyükerşen and stating that Büyükerşen left a mark in Eskişehir, Prof. Dr. Şaduman Halıcı said, “My Bronze President is also a name that left a mark by joining hands with you here.” Giving an example from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, as a name that left a mark, Prof. Dr. Halıcı said, “Atatürk is the biggest entrepreneur for me. What is an entrepreneur? He observes the needs of people, creates opportunities from those needs, produces dreams from them, and implements projects to bring them to life. Atatürk's biggest dream is an independent, sovereign Turkish Nation. He set out at a very young age for the independent and sovereign Turkish Nation. He pronounced the understanding of sovereignty belongs to the nation as early as 1907 in Thessaloniki and puts it into existence one by one.
