Neurology Specialist Doctor Zeynal Tunç working at Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital made important statements about Vertigo. Neurology Specialist Doctor Zeynal Tunç stated that Vertigo is a frequently encountered condition and said, “One of the most common reasons for applying to neurology and ENT polyclinics is dizziness. Vertigo; It is an inconvenience that makes people feel that they or their surroundings are spinning. It negatively affects the daily life of the person and does not allow him to do his daily activities.” used the phrase.

Stating that it is usually a result of diseases of the outer, middle and inner ear, central nervous system, cardiovascular system or metabolism, Tunç continued his words as follows:

“One of the most important root causes of dizziness is benign positional vertigo. In this case, the patient usually feels a severe dizziness when getting out of bed in the morning and feels like hitting the wall, and goes back to bed and applies to us with this complaint. When examining patients with this type of dizziness, we look for eye movements. As a result of eye movements, we make some maneuvers and as a result of these maneuvers, we can determine what the problem is and provide a 90% chance of treatment. To put it briefly, Vertigo is a disorder that resolves with maneuver rather than drug therapy. If the vertigo condition occurs due to different diseases such as colds, tumors or infection, he may recommend medication or a different treatment method depending on the underlying disease.

Stating that vertigo can occur with the displacement of the crystals in the inner ear, it can also develop due to stress, trauma, psychological problems or an underlying disease. Dr. Zeynal Tunc; “There are patients whose dizziness is triggered by the earthquake. Some of these are patients with previous vertigo, while others are patients with feelings of dizziness caused by stress and anxiety. In such patients, we perform neurological and ear-related examinations and see if there is anything that needs to be intervened. We recommend that patients who apply with this complaint drink plenty of water and avoid sudden movements, sometimes it may be necessary to give medication.
