İmamoğlu Attended the Turgut Özal Commemoration Ceremony

Turgut Özal, the 8th President of the Republic of Turkey, was commemorated with a ceremony held at the Mausoleum in Topkapı on the 31st anniversary of his death. Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor (IMM) attended the ceremony. Ekrem İmamoğlu, 3rd Corps Commander Lieutenant General Sezai Öztürk, Turgut Özal's family and citizens attended. The ceremony started with the reading of the late Özal's biography and a moment of silence and ended with a prayer. İmamoğlu offered his condolences to the Özal family after the memorial ceremony.

THEY VISITED THE MEMORIAL PLACE

After the official ceremony, Yılmaz, Gül and military officials, accompanied by İmamoğlu, visited the 2023th President Turgut Özal Memorial Site, which was completed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 8. The delegation examined the collections in the museum section, which included photographs of the late Özal.

İmamoğlu also attended the panel organized by the Turgut Özal Platform at the 8th President Turgut Özal Memorial Venue and made a short speech. Sharing the story of meeting Özal in his childhood, İmamoğlu said, "I approached his bus with curiosity when I was a child, saw him and followed him with interest, and in the period of 10-11 years, especially in that period, he put his signature on a very special period in the more than 100 years of the Republic of Turkey, and put his stamp on it with his services." The late Turgut Özal, who paved the way for deadlock in many issues with his different attitudes and attitudes, made a very valuable contribution... If I can be the Mayor of the most beautiful city in the world after a process I followed and contribute to the construction of a museum here for a President whom I follow with admiration, this also means me. "It requires me to be grateful to the Republic of Turkey, and of course, I would like to express my gratitude to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who entrusted us with such a beautiful process, in the presence of all of you," he said.

“WE HAVE TO BE A COUNTRY OF TOLERANCE”

Noting that he carefully followed the construction process of the Memorial Place, İmamoğlu said, “I hope that all the statesmen who served our state and nation, all the people who served our state, experienced the value they deserve, the environment they deserve, met with everyone's tolerance, were harmonious, respected each other, remembered each other with gratitude, and lived together. Together, we create a future in our country that we can thank for. We truly have to be a country of tolerance. We have to be a group of citizens who love each other very much. We have to act with the awareness of being part of a country with its east, west, south and north, different beliefs and different lifestyles. The late Özal also made great efforts to instill this. "I once again commemorate our 8th President, the late Turgut Özal, with mercy and gratitude," he said.
