US House of Representatives Blows TikTok

In an effort to force Tiktok's Chinese owners to sell their shares, the US House of Representatives on Saturday approved a bill that would ban Tiktok's use in states unless China agrees to the demand.

The accepted bill gives China's ByteDance one year to sell its shares in the social media application Tiktok; otherwise the app will be banned in the US.

The Senate is expected to vote on the proposal next week. President Joe Biden has already said he's ready to sign it.

Even if the proposal becomes law, the company would have up to a year to find a buyer and would likely try to challenge the law in court, arguing it would deprive the app's millions of users of equivalent free speech rights in the United States. .

Such a lawsuit could significantly delay the timeline set by Congress or prevent the law from taking effect altogether.
