Sweden is also Reaching for the Moon: Signed the Artemis Agreement!

Sweden became the 38th country to sign NASA's Artemis Agreement for peaceful and responsible exploration of the Moon.

Swedish Minister of Education Mats Persson wrote the agreement together with US Ambassador Erik D. Ramanathan at the signing ceremony held in Stockholm.

“By joining the Artemis Treaty, Sweden is strengthening its strategic space partnership with the United States on space, covering areas such as space exploration and space industry, which in turn strengthens Sweden's total defense capability,” Persson said in a statement from NASA.

The event in Stockholm took place just after Switzerland signed the Artemis Treaty the day before. Greece and Uruguay also joined the agreement in February.

The agreements reflect principles established in 1967 as part of the Outer Space Treaty to help govern international space cooperation.

NASA is using the renewed agreement as a guide for its Artemis program, which aims to send astronauts back to the moon for the first time since Apollo 1972 in 17.
