April 23 Message from President Altay

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay published a message on the 104th anniversary of the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

President Altay's message is as follows:

“We celebrate April 23, one of the most important steps towards independence for our nation, with great enthusiasm and pride. This date, when the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was opened, is the day when the will of our nation was expressed most strongly and our national sovereignty was established, and it also stands out as a date when the fuse of our independence was ignited and our torch of independence was lit again.

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, gifted this special day to all children in the world and declared to the whole world how important our children are in the construction of the future. This value given to children is not limited to just a holiday, it has become one of the cornerstones of our Republic.

I believe that this important date was engraved in our hearts 104 years ago; It will continue to enlighten and inspire the future of all our children.

As Konya Metropolitan Municipality, we have implemented many projects to support the best development of our children in every field. We make great efforts to raise our children as useful people for the country and the nation with the services and opportunities we offer in a wide range from education to health, from sports to art.

With these feelings and thoughts, I celebrate the 104th anniversary of the opening of our Turkish Grand National Assembly, and I remember with mercy and gratitude all the heroes of our War of Independence, especially the first President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

"I congratulate our children, who are the hope of our future, and all the children around the world, on April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day with my most heartfelt feelings."
