Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerMarathon İzmir, which was organized for the fourth time in line with the vision of making İzmir a sports city, will be run on 7 May. It is expected that new records will be broken in the organization, which entered the list of the fastest marathons in the world in World Athletics.

The countdown continues for Marathon İzmir Avek, organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality for the fourth time. 7 elite athletes from 20 countries and athletes from all over Turkey will participate in the marathon to be run on Sunday, May 30th. Ethiopian Tsegaye Getachew, who holds the first record in 2021 in Turkey's fastest marathon with a time of 2 hours 9 minutes 35 seconds, will also come to İzmir.

Two different runs on the same day

In the 7-kilometer marathon, the start of which will be given on Sunday, May 07, at 00:42, in front of the former İZFAŞ General Directorate building on Şair Eşref Boulevard, the athletes will be running over Alsancak. Karşıyakaand will return before arriving at Bostanlı Pier. Athletes, who will arrive in İnciraltı on the same track this time via Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard, will return from Marina İzmir and complete the race at the starting point. Within the scope of Marathon İzmir Avek, the 21-kilometer 10th of May Road Race, which is planned to be held on May 19 this year, will be held within the Marathon İzmir 10-kilometer race. The start of this race will be given at 09.15:10 on the same day and from the same point. In the XNUMX-kilometer race, the athletes will return from the Köprü Tram Stop on Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard and reach the finish on the opposite lane of the Fuar Kültürpark İZFAŞ building.

High turnout

42 athletes registered for the 10-kilometer marathon and the 5-kilometer run. Marathon İzmir Avek will be Turkey's waste-free marathon, as it was the previous year. In line with the global goals set by the United Nations (UN), it will be run for a "sustainable world". In addition, the plastic bottles to be given to the runners will be collected in waste bins and recycled. All materials in the Maraton İzmir event area will also be recyclable. All advertisements and directions for the sponsors and the race on the track will be collected one by one at the end of the race and recycled.

Donation record expected

In the previous year, within the scope of the non-governmental cooperation with Adım Adım, athletes were given the opportunity to run for non-governmental organizations and donate to organizations. While a total of 2022 million TL donations were collected in 4, the authorities stated that there is a record donation expectation this year due to the high participation.
