Katip Çelebi University station will be built between Egekent and Ulukent stations in Çiğli district of İZBAN Suburban Line, operated in partnership with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and TCDD. Çiğli Mayor Utku Gümrükçü announced that a contract was signed with the company that won the tender.

Two more stations are being added to İZBAN, which constitutes the important pillar of the urban rail system in İzmir. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will bring Lale stations to Konak district and Katip Çelebi stations to Çiğli district in order to facilitate citizens' access to İZBAN. Katip Çelebi University İZBAN station, which will be located between Egekent and Ulukent stations in Çiğli, will facilitate the transportation of Ahmet Efendi and Balatçık Mahallesi residents and university students.

This station was really needed so that our students would not have difficulty in commuting to and from school. In addition, with the opening of Europe's largest Faculty of Dentistry, which will be newly opened, our citizens will not have any difficulties in terms of transportation to the hospital. Katip Çelebi University stop will provide a great ease of transportation for 50 thousand citizens residing in the Balatçık and Harmandalı regions.
