Announcing the deadline for asking questions for the “Presidency and City Councils Idea Project as a Focus of Civilization” competition as Monday, May 8, the Metropolitan Municipality set the project delivery date as July 3. With the competition, it is aimed to obtain the projects of the Metropolitan Municipality, where local democracy is represented, and the Municipal Assembly Hall, which is open to the public, where decisions that improve social life are taken. In the project, in the center of the city of Izmir, a design that combines the ideal of local democracy in Turkey's second century with the memory of the city is expected.

Contributing to the daily life of the citizens

The project of the competition will be designed for Konak (Atatürk) Square, which has been both the historical and administrative center of the city for nearly two hundred years. Konak Square, which lives as a dense area of ​​the city with its location and the buildings it contains, still maintains its city center feature even though it has undergone changes over the years with zoning studies, competitions and different regulations. In the project to be selected, migration will be taken into account, revealing the urban characteristics of the area, contributing to the daily life of the citizens by taking into account the historical, cultural and social values ​​of the area.

It will be two-stage

With the free, national, two-stage idea project competition, it is expected to develop an imagination about what kind of functions “Izmir's democracy focus” will contain and how to establish its relationship with the people of Izmir, and turn it into a structure proposal.
The winner of the competition will receive 500 thousand TL, the second 400 thousand TL, and the third 300 thousand TL. Five honorable mentions worth 100 thousand TL will be distributed with the competition.

The head of the jury of the competition is architect Nevzat Sayın. The main jury members are Architect Emre Arolat, landscape architect Prof. Dr. Erhan Vecdi Küçükerbaş, architect Ersen Gürsel, architect Prof. Dr. Hikmet Gökmen, civil engineer, city and regional planner Prof. Dr. İlhan Tekeli, Civil Engineer, City and Regional Planner, sculptor Prof. Meric Hizal.
