In the last four years, İBB has made a breakthrough in sports investments. The number of facilities, which was 48, increased by 40 percent to 67. The first athletics track in the history of IMM was opened in Maltepe. 35 new gymnasiums were built in the school gardens. The construction of the facility that will make the Golden Horn a water sports center has reached the final stage. Work continues on transforming 25 existing facilities into modern centers.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has also accelerated its investments in sports since 2019 in order to spread sports and the Olympic spirit to large masses, to leave permanent works in the field of sports, to increase the level of physical activity and to create a healthy and sportive society. IMM, which launched the Sports Master Plan with the motto of “An active, vigorous, happy city” and carrying out its activities with the vision of “An active Istanbul with a high quality of life, which has adopted sports as a way of life”, has made significant investments in the field of sports.
NUMBER OF FACILITIES INCREASED FROM 4 TO 48 IN 67 YEARS
Providing sports services in 2019 sports facilities until 48 in cooperation with IMM Youth and Sports Directorate and Sports Istanbul, IMM offers sports opportunities in 67 centers today. IMM, which opened the facilities one by one, whose construction, landscaping and testing works were completed, first offered the Büyükçekmece Tennis Courts to the use of the people of the region in 2019. Cemal Kamacı Sports Complex, whose renovation works were completed in 2020, started to serve citizens and athletes in Yeşilce Sports Facility and Yenikapı Sports Facility. Sultangazi Gazi Sports Facility and Güngören Sports Centers were also opened in 2021.
1 NEW FACILITIES OPENED IN THE LAST 8 YEAR
The most important breakthrough in establishment was achieved in the last year. IMM opened Esatpaşa Sports Facility, international level Maltepe Kenan Onuk Athletics Track, Gazanfer Bilge Otogar Sports Center, Arnavuktoy Swimming Pool and Bayrampaşa Swimming Pool into service last year. Since the beginning of this year, IMM has opened the Sultanbeyli 100th Year Sports Facility, the new sports fields of the Silivri Müjdat Gürsu Sports Facility and the Gaziosmanpaşa Halit Kıvanç City Stadium.
35 DONE 15 ON THE WAY
2019 new halls were added to the School Gymnasiums built by IMM, which had 185 until 35. After the discovery, determination and project works were completed, the construction works of the gymnasium for 15 more schools started in the first days of 2023.
HALIC WILL BE THE CENTER FOR WATER SPORTS
Swimming pools, stadiums, carpet pitches, fitness centers, basketball courts and new sports facilities that will serve in many branches are being built in Gaziosmanpaşa, Bağcılar, Kartal, Üsküdar, Fatih, Bahçelievler and Ataşehir districts. Water sports centers are at the forefront of sports investments, the construction of which is given priority and speed by IMM. The Haliç Aquatics Center, whose construction has reached the final stage, will be opened very soon, and it will be possible to host clubs and athletes in branches such as canoeing and rowing in their competitions and training sessions. Work has begun to build another international-scale water sports center in Maltepe. Boutique-style sports centers are being built at 6 more points in Istanbul. When all these works are completed, 15 new sports facilities will be added to Istanbul.
RENEWAL WORK IN 25 FACILITIES
Existing sports facilities are also being renewed according to the conditions of the day and the needs of Istanbulites. 4 sports facilities were included in the maintenance, repair and renovation works carried out by the Facilities Maintenance and Repair Directorate under the coordination of the IMM Youth and Sports Directorate. During the works, which included completely renewed sports facilities such as Beyoğlu Swimming Pool, Pendik Kurtköy Sports Complex, Silivri Müjdat Gürsu Sports Facility and Sultangazi Hamza Yerlikaya Sports Complex, 25 carpet pitches, 14 stadiums and 3 tennis courts infrastructure were reconstructed. The renovation works of the stadium section of the Cebeci Sports Complex and the 14 football fields of the Balat Sports Facility, the entire Çakmak Swimming Pool, the carpet fields and tennis courts of the Kaynarca Sports Facility, the entire Hakkı Başar Sports Facility and the tennis courts of the Tuzla Beach Sports Facility continue.
