The New Armor of the ALTAY Tank from Roketsan

Turkey's first domestic and national main battle tank ALTAY's reactive and composite armor systems bear the signature of Roketsan. Equipped with the new generation armor developed and produced by the Roketsan Ballistic Protection Center (BKM), two ALTAYs will be delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).

While Roketsan has many years of experience in armor systems, its biggest advantage over its competitors in this field in the world is its ability to develop armor systems while developing missile systems against armored vehicles. In this way, the company, which can create fast and effective solutions, has also succeeded in developing more effective and lighter armor systems with high-tech materials for the ALTAY project, with the importance it attaches to innovation.

The ALTAY Tank Armor System stands out as a new generation hybrid armor system developed by Roketsan engineers against current threats. Thanks to the advanced technology armor materials and advanced subsystems in the system, a high level of protection is provided with minimum weight and volume. While the Armor System provides high performance protection for the crew compartment and sub-critical systems thanks to minimized edge corner effects and optimized placement, it also has increased multi-hit resistance compared to its competitors. The open architecture of the system also allows it to be updated according to new threat scenarios.

Mass Production Will Begin for 250 Armor Sets

Currently, preparations for mass production of armor systems are being carried out by Roketsan and it is aimed to deliver a total of 250 armor sets after the tests of the tank in the TAF are completed.

The new generation technologies used in this armor system, which can be used in all configurations of the ALTAY tank, can also be adapted for other tanks in the TAF inventory. In the future, it is also aimed to be used in unmanned land vehicles.

The Only Source in Turkey: Roketsan Ballistic Protection Center

Roketsan Ballistic Protection Center, which was established with a state investment for all armor needs of our country, is the only source in Turkey for the development of tank and tracked vehicle armor, which requires advanced technology and a high level of confidentiality. Continuing its work on domestic production of special materials used in armor systems, the center thus contributes to reducing foreign dependency.

Announcing its name as an armor manufacturer in the ALTAY tank project, Roketsan also aims to increase its exports in armor systems. Efforts are continuing to market the advanced tank modernization packages developed within the scope of the project abroad.

On the other hand, it is planned that the Modular Armored Tower (MZK) systems, which can be integrated into many different platforms and have variable protection levels depending on user requests, will be put into the service of both the TAF and friendly and allied countries.
