Akkuyu Nuclear Fire Safety Unit employees participated in multi-disciplinary track races upon the special invitation of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Fire Brigade Department. In the competitions, 21-year-old 3rd class firefighter Yunus Çiftçi, who worked in the Fire Safety Department and was the youngest firefighter of the plant, and 46-year-old 1st class firefighter Hüsnü Fil represented Akkuyu NPP.

Yunus Ciftci came first in the competitions and Hüsnü Fil came in second.

For two days, the teams competed in 15 different disciplines, including physical training exercises covering elements of the firefighting profession and running at various distances. The results of the competition held in the field of the Municipal Fire Department were decisive in the selection of candidates for the fire department of the region, and in establishing the current standards regarding physical preparation.

Fire Safety Unit Chief Roman Melnikov made a statement on the subject, “Akkuyu Nuclear Fire Safety Unit employees are constantly in the training and training process. This includes both emergency response skills and physical exercises. Therefore, it is not surprising that Yunus Ciftci came first in the competition and Hüsnü Fil came second. I would like to thank our colleagues from Mersin for their invitation and warm welcome.”

After the competitions, the organizers will evaluate the results of the participants and arrange the criteria for the entrance examination for personnel selection for Mersin fire departments.

Employees of Akkuyu NGS Fire Safety Unit were deemed worthy of different awards by ranking many times in international sports events. Akkuyu Nuclear firefighters last participated in the World Fire Games in Lisbon in 2022 and won 38 medals.

Established in 2015, Akkuyu Nuclear fire department is the first fire department to obtain the authorized fire department certificate by operating within an international company in accordance with the standards of the Republic of Turkey in 2022.

Employees demonstrate an exceptionally high level of professionalism, constantly participating in training programs and exercises of the Turkish fire department. Akkuyu NPP firefighters also helped their Turkish colleagues many times in extinguishing the fires.

The unit was also deemed worthy of professional awards for its bravery and devoted work in extinguishing the fire that broke out in the cargo terminal of the Iskenderun Port in Hatay after the earthquakes that occurred in February and affected 11 provinces.
