What Should Those Who Have Knee Pain While Performing Tarawih Prayers?

Siverek State Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Dr. Ahmet Yiğitbay made statements by referring to the issues that patients with orthopedic disorders should pay attention to while performing tarawih prayers.

The month of Ramadan, the sultan of 11 months, which was expected with excitement, started with the first tarawih prayer yesterday. Standing for a long time, especially in people with joint calcification and meniscus injury, causes an increase in existing pain. For this reason, patients with joint disorders should be more careful while performing tarawih prayers.

Stating that it is very important to act consciously while praying, as in every moment of life, Dr. Yiğitbay said, “There has been an increase in musculoskeletal system diseases recently, with the prolongation of human lifespan. For a pain-free life, it is very important to act consciously while praying, as in every moment of life. The tarawih prayer, especially in Ramadan, is one of them. Worship that lasts 33 rakats together with Isha prayer can cause an increase in the severity of pain in those with arthritis. In terms of health, it is more appropriate for patients over 65 years of age with advanced knee / hip arthritis to pray sitting or in a chair, if possible. he said.

Expressing that the Presidency of Religious Affairs has the same opinion on this issue, Dr. Yiğitbay said, “It would be more appropriate for people who have pain in the knees to stand up from a sitting position by getting support from the ground with their hands. In patients with meniscus tear, locking of the knee can be seen due to prolonged sitting. These patients also need to be careful. In addition, people with lumbar hernia may experience serious pain when bending over and getting up. Again, these people should be careful while performing their prayers, and if they cannot pray standing up, they should pray sitting or sitting on a chair. said.
