Izmir Metropolitan Municipality started the production of underwear for earthquake victims. Aegean Clothing Manufacturers Association, İzmir Dokuz Eylül Rotary Club and Be My Future Association and volunteers support the solidarity movement.
After the disaster that affected 11 provinces, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality started another important study to meet the needs of earthquake survivors who both lived in difficulties in the region and came to the city. A production workshop was established under the roof of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Vocational Factory in order to deliver underwear to the citizens affected by the earthquake with the understanding of "We are Healing Our Wounds with Solidarity". İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Aegean Clothing Manufacturers Association, İzmir Dokuz Eylül Rotary Club and Be My Future Association and volunteers also supported the solidarity.
“We strive to maintain solidarity by growing”
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Vocational Factory Branch Directorate Training and Employment Chief Aslı Güngör Yıldız, who stated that they started production, said, “As the Vocational Factory Branch Directorate, we started the production of underwear in order to support our citizens who were affected by the earthquake. We carry out this work in cooperation with the Aegean Clothing Manufacturers Association, İzmir Dokuz Eylül Rotary Club and Be My Future Association. We will distribute these underwear, which are produced under hygienic conditions, to the citizens affected by the earthquake in the earthquake zone and to the citizens who had to migrate to İzmir. We aim to produce 250-300 underwear per day. We aim to include volunteers in this journey that we have started with our trainers. Today, 7 volunteers accompanying our 2 trainers joined us. We are trying to maintain solidarity by gradually growing it. I would like to thank everyone who contributed," he said.
“We will all get together”
Retired Sema Ocak, who voluntarily participated in the work of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, said, “I experienced the 1999 earthquake in Istanbul. That's why I put myself in the place of people living in the earthquake zone. It's very painful. My mother and father were also tailors, we had workshops. I saw the call for solidarity on social media, I wanted to support. I came with my friend, we attended. We will bandage our wounds together and we will recover together," he said.
Doors are open to volunteers
Underwear, which will be sewn by the sewing instructors of the Vocational Factory with the fabrics provided by the member companies of the Aegean Clothing Manufacturers Association, will be delivered to the earthquake victims in need as soon as possible.
