Minister Dönmez Inspected the Ship That Earthquake Victims Will Be Accommodated in Iskenderun

Fatih Dönmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, made examinations aboard Karadeniz Lifeship Süheyla Sultan, owned by Karadeniz Holding, which docked at Iskenderun Port for temporary sheltering of earthquake victims.

Minister Dönmez, after receiving information from the authorities during the investigation on the ship, told reporters that preparations for temporary shelter in Iskenderun are continuing rapidly both on land and at sea using ships.

Reminding that 2 cruise ships had come here before and approximately 2 thousand earthquake victims stayed here, Fatih Dönmez said:

“I hope the second ship will arrive in a week. We will host a total of 3 people on these two ships. Such ships are perhaps being designed for the first time in the world. By the way, I would like to thank the charitable business person. They had previously produced solutions for what kind of shelter would be needed in case of a similar disaster in Turkey or in various parts of the world. Today, we have brought one of those solutions here. It was designed in shipyards in Turkey. Originally designed for another purpose, the ship was converted into accommodation. It has become a floating hotel in a place.”

“We have classes on board”

Giving information about the features of the ship, Dönmez continued as follows:

“We have classrooms and classrooms in various numbers and capacities, especially for our school-age children. They have their desks, they have televisions. Again, there are various places on board the ship where our citizens can meet their social needs. There is even a mini carpet pitch on the ship where our young people can play. Of course, we do not have the opportunity to give the standards of our normal life to the inside of the ship, but at least we will provide the opportunity to meet some of his social needs. Again, breakfast will be provided to our citizens on our ship. We prepare a soup kitchen on the dock for lunch and dinner. Again, this company is planning a container city where approximately 7 hundred people will be accommodated in the same region. Thus, we have created a capacity for our citizens in need of temporary accommodation, especially in Iskenderun and its vicinity, again in the center of Antakya.”

Minister Dönmez also stated that the container city works in İskenderun continue intensively and thanked the sponsors and municipalities for their support in this sense.
