China noted that the earthquake was felt in the Uyghur Autonomous Region and that railway services were suspended until damage assessment studies were carried out. It was stated that the bridge crossings as well as the train services between the cities of Kashgar and Aksu, where the Uyghur Turks live, were stopped.
Chinese officials announced that studies are continuing to determine whether there is any damage to the roads, railways and bridges in the region.
On the other hand, in Tajikistan, the epicenter of the earthquake, where the earthquake was felt the hardest, the 7,2 magnitude earthquake struck the uninhabited region.
The earthquake, which occurred at a point close to the Chinese border of the mountainous Badashhan autonomous region, did not cause any loss of life since there was no settlement in that region.
Indicating that the population of the region is "almost negligible", the authorities stated that there are no settlements except for a few villages, and that no dead or injured reports have been made.
