Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, which has implemented many projects in the field of transportation, also continues its studies on traffic safety. In this context, smart transportation systems were installed together with stakeholder institutions for traffic safety. With smart transportation systems, the main axes are kept under surveillance.
TRAFFIC FLOW INSTANTLY FOLLOWING
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality implemented new projects one by one for traffic safety. Traffic flow at the major transportation axes and busy intersections in the city is followed by the Traffic Management Branch of the Department of Transportation.
MAIN AXLES UNDER OBSERVATION
In order to respond to the problems in a timely manner, 110 high-resolution traffic monitoring cameras were commissioned. Images of traffic monitoring cameras were put into service by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Traffic Management Center in units such as Provincial Police Department and AFAD. In addition, the assembly and testing process of 150 cameras continues. A further 150 cameras will be added to the system shortly after the New Year.
TRAFFIC DENSITY MEASUREMENT
With the cooperation of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and Kocaeli University, 40 bluetooth-based sensors were installed in order to instantly detect the traffic density on the main arteries throughout Kocaeli. The traffic density on the main arteries is measured instantly with sensors.
SPEED DETECTION SYSTEM TO SEKA TUNNEL
In order to prevent speed-related accidents in the Seka Tunnel, an instantaneous speed detection system was installed on both sides of the tunnel entrance by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality. Thanks to the system that allows the speed of vehicles to be detected and reflected to the drivers on color screens, possible accidents were prevented.
