Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, said, “The Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which was built entirely with our domestic and national engineering solutions and the design of our engineers, was the first bridge in the world to be completed in its field. The amount of steel used in the viaduct is twice that of the steel used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower. Even this amount, which I have only shown as an example, is proof of how important and large our project is.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu attended the opening ceremony of the Bitlis Baykan Siirt Diyarbakır road and Bitlis Stream Viaduct and connection roads. Noting that while the whole world is struggling with crises, under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they continue to storm services and works in Bitlis as well as in all four corners of Turkey, Karaismailoğlu said, “We are taking firm steps to transform Turkey into a global logistics superpower. In line with our Transport and Logistics Master Plan; We are building investments that will meet the needs of tomorrow in the most accurate way with our close to 5 thousand colleagues at our nearly 700 thousand construction sites and service points. With the road move that we started in 2003, we especially strengthened our road transportation network. Despite the increasing number of vehicles and increased vehicle mobility, we reduced the traffic density and reduced the accident rate by 82 percent. Every year, we save the lives of more than 13 thousand citizens thanks to safe roads. Thanks to our investments, only in 2021; We have saved a total of 28 billion dollars in fuel, time, vehicle maintenance and operating costs.

“In 2003, we increased the length of the divided highway in Bitlis, which was only 19 kilometers, by more than 15 times, to 305 kilometers. Today, we share the joy of successfully completing and opening the Bitlis Stream Viaduct and connection roads on the route that connects our city, which has a mountainous terrain, with the southern provinces. Today, we are justifiably proud of breaking new ground in Bitlis. Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which was built entirely with our domestic and national engineering solutions and the design of our engineers, has been the first bridge in its field to be completed in the world. A thousand kilometers of welds were made in the Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which was built in one piece using 4 tons of steel with a 15 percent slope. The amount of steel used in the viaduct is twice that of the steel used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower. Even this amount, which I have only shown as an example, is proof of how important and large our project is. Bitlis Stream Viaduct, which is an important transition point between our Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia Regions; It also increased the transportation standard of the international logistics corridor, which provides access to important border gates such as Gürbulak, Kapıköy, Esendere and Habur. We will make significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the region, especially in agriculture, animal husbandry, industry and tourism.”
