Among those who adopt their dear friends are Pako employees who undertake their treatment. Veterinarian Devran Aydın and Radiology Technician Gül Kaplan are just two of them.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus does not leave dear friends unattended. Cats and dogs treated by the staff of the Veterinary Affairs Directorate on campus are also provided with a warm home. Sometimes, the staff adopts the best friends they treat themselves. Veterinarian Devran Aydın opened the doors of his home to "Çiko", whom he bonded with during the treatment process, and to "Melon", Radiology Technician Gül Kaplan.

I'm hooked, I can't let go

Devran Aydın said that because cats have no sense of height, they are usually injured as a result of falling from a glass or balcony and are brought to Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus for treatment. Stating that he also treated “Çiko”, whose foot and scapula were broken due to falling from a height, Aydın said, “The treatment of some animals in Pako Social Life Campus takes a long time. One of them was Çiko. I had to take Çiko for a walk every day after the surgery so that her gait would improve. I used to take it home from time to time. After two or three months, I became more and more connected. Then I realized that I had formed a bond that was so strong that I could not own it. I gave up owning and adopted. I adopted a cat that we treated here before. Now I have two cats,” he said. Expressing that some people abandon the animals they have, Aydın said, “It is an emotional collapse for these animals. That's why pet owners should know that this is a lifetime commitment.

“There was an incredible bond between us”

Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus Radiology Technician Gül Kaplan also adopted a male dog named Melon, who was brought to the campus for treatment. Stating that he had a golden dog before, but he disappeared after 6 years, he said, “I was very upset at that time. I haven't owned a pet for a while. When I started working here, we met with Melon. An incredible bond has formed between us. I was so excited as if I had found our lost dog. I decided to own it,” he said.

Kaplan: “Please don't leave them”

Expressing that it is very enjoyable to live with Melon, Gül Kaplan said, “We need to think of this situation as a traveling companion. It's great to travel with him, to share things. The return is incredible. He loves you so much, he expects you so. The only answer is love. Another dear friend who has been abandoned recently has arrived. He is not used to living together in a cage. The breed is not accustomed to living with dogs. She cries all day, waiting for her owner. He thinks we will adopt him when we go to the cage. When that doesn't happen, she cries again. It never adapts to the process. All living things are well taken care of here. But some of them are pets and not suitable for living in such environments. Please do not leave them. Let them not forget that they are sad, crying, waiting for their owners. Please take care of our friends from here who have the opportunity”.

There are also Doberman, Golden, Siberian Husky, Rottweiler, Belgian Shepherd, German Shepherd friends in Pako Stray Animals Social Life Campus.
