The world of cybercrime is expanding, accessing personal data is getting easier and cheaper. Serap Günal, General Manager of Siberasist, draws attention to the fact that hackers, who can access a phishing kit with prices starting at an average of $ 100 on the Dark Web, can also sell a complete set of IDs to users for about $ 1.000, and underlines that hackers can create special documents such as fake passports and driver's licenses with them.

It may not be fair, but cybercrime is getting cheaper. So much so that the Dark Web, which hosts a large number of illegal activities and most of it consists of the sale of hacked or compromised accounts, has become a cheap market for personal data and cyber attack kits. You can purchase ransomware for as little as $66, or you can get an account with a 25-year Netflix subscription for $1. According to Serap Günal, General Manager of Siberasist, who pointed out that even ready-made kits that can carry out phishing attacks can be purchased in the Dark Web, known as the underground of the Internet, various steps should be taken to protect personal data, especially phishing attacks.

Everything Has a Price on the Dark Web

The low cost of cybercrime and the fact that it creates a supply and demand in its own world are some of the reasons for the increase in the number of cyber attacks. Especially the Dark Web, where everything is for sale and personal data is flying, is an environment where criminals and their buyers roam. According to reports by Privacy Affairs researchers, the cost of creating a full identity account on the Dark Web starts at $1.000, while a 1-year Netflix subscription account can be sold for $25, and a PayPal account with a balance of $1.000 can be sold for $20. Serap Günal states that accessing all of the personal information necessary to create fake passports and driver's licenses and doing this by hackers is a great threat, and that it is also scary for users to reach a phishing attack kit with prices starting from 100 dollars, even without knowing any cyber attack technique. Noting that the biggest reason for the emergence of this entire cyber market is the inability to adequately protect personal data, Günal shares the important steps that users should take against phishing attacks, which are at the forefront of selling data on the Dark Web.

1. Have cyber protection against risky emails. A filter system should be arranged that recognizes and filters fake content that may come to e-mail boxes and sends quick reports against potential risks. Risky emails should be moved to the spam box or sprayed.

2. Do not trade on unsafe sites. There may be various links and links between the e-mails received by the accounts that exceed the filtering. When clicking on these links, make sure that the URL starts with "https" and there is a closed lock icon near the address bar. After receiving any warning that the site may be unsafe, one should never try to enter the site, and care should be taken not to download files from sites that seem malicious.

3. Use dual factor protection. Hackers choose the path of least resistance to access sensitive data. This path is used to advance the launched attack and exploit any vulnerabilities along the way. Therefore, two-factor protection methods should be used against phishing attacks, and the protective system software to be installed should be resistant to possible attacks.
