ABB Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage is renovating the Ancient Roman Theater, located in Ulus Historical City Center and between Hacı Bayram-ı Veli and Ankara Castle, by preserving its original structure and using appropriate materials, with the approval of the Conservation Board.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has made great progress in the restoration work it started on the Roman Theatre, one of the most important historical monuments of the Capital. The works, in which the sitting steps are placed while preserving the original texture, and 70% of them have been completed, are carried out with precision.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to ensure that historical artifacts that have an important place in the history of the Capital are passed on to future generations.
Within the scope of the Archeopark Project, the works in the 2020-year-old Ancient Roman Theatre, whose restoration works were started in 2, have been completed at a rate of 70 percent.
ANCIENT THEATER IS RENEWED WHILE PRESERVING ITS ORIGINAL STRUCTURE
In the 100th anniversary of the Republic, the steps to place the steps in the theater, which is aimed to be brought to the capital city tourism, are progressing rapidly.
When the restoration project, which is prepared by taking many international ancient theater reconstructions as an example, is completed, the theater can be used as an open-air stage with an audience capacity of approximately 500 people.

While the first two rows of the cavea (seating rows) will be completely handcrafted using scalloped gray beige veined Afyon marble blocks, the upper rows will be completely handcrafted using andesite stone plaque, while the stage will be covered with a wooden platform on steel.
VENICE REGULATION IS ALSO COMPLIED WITH IN TECHNICAL STUDIES
Techniques used in the restoration of the theater, which started to come to light, are carried out in accordance with the Venice Charter, while the placement of the materials used is carried out with great care and precision in the company of experts.
Mehmet Akif Güneş, Director of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, Application and Control Branch, said that they are trying to restore the theater while preserving its originality within the scope of the Restoration Project, and gave the following information about the ongoing work:
“As the Roman Theater within the Archeopark Project is in the 1st and 2nd degree protected areas, we continue our work with precision. We are currently proceeding with the 1st Cavea section. Then we will move on to the 2nd Cavea. We carry out our work in accordance with international norms. The Roman Theater is one of the important works of Ankara. We expect the Roman Theater to reach its final goal by the end of this year. Later, we will unearth an artifact that lifts the Roman period by characterizing it together with the Archeopark Project. When the restoration works are completed, the stage building will be built and concerts and many events will be held on it.”
ROMAN THEATER WILL CONTRIBUTE TO TOURISM WITH ITS STUNNING STRUCTURE
While the Roman Theater, which was registered as a protected area in 1992 and has an original capacity of 5 thousand people, includes parados buildings, audience seating areas and a stage room, many statues and objects were unearthed during the excavations carried out between 1982-1986.
Roman Theatre, which will be integrated with the Archeopark Project when the restoration works carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality are completed; It will also contribute to the country's tourism by hosting many cultural works from concerts to theaters, from national and international art events to symposiums with its magnificent structure.
