Üsküdar University NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital General Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. A. Murat Koca; He shared important information about the role of the gallbladder in the body, the discomforts and treatment methods in case of stones or inflammation in the gallbladder.

Stating that gallbladder stones and inflammation are common and cause an important health problem when the functioning of the gallbladder, which helps the digestion of food, is disrupted, experts state that patients can quickly return to normal life after laparoscopic, that is, closed surgery. According to experts, who pointed out that gallstones, which mostly occur without symptoms, are more common especially in overweight people, those who do not consume enough water, and those who have a fatty and unbalanced diet, pregnancy can also increase the formation of gallstones.

Fatty and animal foods adversely affect

Stating that the gallbladder is located in the lower part of the liver in the abdomen and is filled with bile fluid, Op. Dr. A. Murat Koca said, “Some amount coming from the bile ducts accumulates in the gallbladder, when needed, the bladder contracts and is emptied into the duodenum and helps in food digestion. Especially in feeding with fatty and animal foods, there is an increase in gallbladder secretion. In a healthy person, this filling and emptying system works in balance. If the gallbladder is impaired, some diseases may occur. The most common of these conditions is gallstones and inflammations. said.

Stones are formed in the sac whose functioning is impaired

Stating that the cholesterol in the fluid in the gallbladder, pigment / dye substances combine with calcium in the sac, which deteriorates over time, and adhere to it, it leads to the formation of bile sludge and then stones. Dr. A. Murat Koca said, “Although the stones are of different sizes and structures, they can sometimes form in the main bile duct. Sometimes calcification and petrification may occur within the wall of the pouch. This condition is defined as a porcelain pouch and has the possibility of becoming cancerous.” said.

Who are at risk?

Kiss. Dr. A. Murat Koca defined people with a high risk of gallstones as follows:

“Especially those who are overweight and obese/obese, those with a family history of gallstone disease, those who have a fatty and unbalanced diet, those after middle age, especially after the age of 40, women, those who lose weight rapidly, those who have a sedentary lifestyle and do not drink enough water, those who use birth control pills, those who use diabetes The risk of developing gallstones is higher in people with disease and high cholesterol disease. After the gallstones form, many people may not show any symptoms, so the diagnosis can be made by chance when the tests are done.”

Symptoms of gallstones…

Emphasizing that bloating, indigestion, nausea, abdominal tenderness, heartburn, heartburn, bile in the mouth and pain can be seen when gallstone disease is present, Op. Dr. A. Murat Koca said, “The pain can spread to the upper right side of the abdomen, the back and the upper back. If the gallstones cause swelling in the bladder and press on the main bile duct called the common bile duct, yellowing and jaundice can be seen on the skin and whites of the eyes. After the examination of the patient who applied with the stated complaints, tests should be done in order to make a full diagnosis. Upper abdominal ultrasound and blood tests are performed for diagnosis. If a more detailed diagnosis or differential diagnosis, computed tomography of the upper abdomen may be requested.

Return to normal life is faster in closed surgery

Kiss. Dr. A. Murat Koca said that surgery should be performed for the treatment of gallbladder stones and the problems that occur, and continued his words as follows:

“However, not all gallstones are surgical. Surgery is required if it gives symptoms, has certain dimensions and risks. The effect of drugs on gallstones is limited. Sometimes it is effective for cholesterol stones, but it can trigger more problems. Surgical treatment is performed under a camera view, which we call the laparoscope, which is entered into the abdomen by passing the abdominal wall. With the operation called laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the gallbladder and stones are removed from the abdomen after completely separating them through small holes without opening the abdomen. Only gallbladder stones are not removed, because the gallbladder structure is impaired, and problems may occur again. In some very complicated cases or in patients who may not be able to have closed surgery, open surgery may be preferred, albeit at a low rate. After laparoscopic (closed) surgery, the patient returns to his normal life faster. In untreated gallbladder disease, inflammation, bladder perforation / perforation, peritonitis, obstruction of the main duct by stones and jaundice, pancreatic inflammation, and rarely cancer may occur. After the operation, the patient can return to his normal life and lead a healthy life after a few weeks of adaptation to foods.

Be very careful about gallstones in diabetes.

Saying that much more attention should be paid to gallstones and inflammations in diabetics, Op. Dr. A. Murat Koca said, “Since the feeling of pain may decrease in time due to nerve damage in diabetes, patients may not look or feel comfortable even if the gallbladder is punctured, and dangerous situations may arise.”

Pregnancy can increase gallstone formation

Emphasizing that women should be very careful about gallstones and diseases, especially during pregnancy, NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital General Surgery Specialist Op. Dr. A. Murat Koca said, “Changes in our body system during pregnancy can increase the formation of gallstones. We recommend laparoscopic surgery if there is no pregnancy in a woman with gallstones or symptoms and if a baby is planned. If there is pregnancy, the patient should be followed up well, but surgery should be performed when necessary. The risks for surgical treatment are higher in the first 3 months and the last 3 months of pregnancy. We can say that the safer period for surgical operation is between 3-6 months.” said.
