37 firefighters, 208 of whom were women, who recently joined the İBB Fire Department to work in the field, graduated. The new firefighters showed their skills in the competitions they prepared for the ceremony.

The new firefighters of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), who came to the end of their 560-hour training, graduated with a ceremony held at the IMM Cebeci Sports Complex.

The competition between the teams at the ceremony attracted great attention. The races, which required high level of condition and strength, witnessed great excitement. First, firefighters pulling with a motopump (high-pressure water engine) hit the target with pressurized water. Then, the 100 meter runners of the teams took the stage. The runners both responded to the small fires in the setup and completed the track. Candidates climbed the three-story tower with 4,5-meter-long hooked ladders. The firefighters, who were out of breath, shared the happiness of graduation with their families.

“OUR PRESIDENT'S DREAM IS FULFILLING”

Pointing out the achievements of female firefighters who will work in the field for the first time in Istanbul's history, İBB Secretary General Can Akın Çağlar said, "Ekrem İmamoğlu's dream since the first day that women find a much more place in each unit of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality is the Istanbul Fire Brigade. I see it happening, too. This is really very happy for both our country and Istanbul.”

“FIRE MANAGEMENT SHOULD BE DEFINED AS A PROFESSION”

Remzi Albayrak, Head of IMM Fire Department, pointed out that the work of firefighters is not recognized as a profession; “Firefighter deserves to be defined as a profession. I am always with you to get your rights fully and to have your reputation legally recognized.”

“There is no shortage of us”

A male firefighter, who expressed his happiness for being able to live together for the first time in Istanbul's history, said, "Women have nothing less than us." A female firefighter celebrating her graduation with her child in her arms said, “Everything is for our children. We have to make sacrifices. My wife also said that she supported me a lot during this process.
