Historic Long Bridge on World Heritage Site

Historical Long Bridge is on the way of World Heritage: An application will be made for the historical Long Bridge in the town of Uzunköprü in Edirne to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
It has been reported that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will apply to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List of the historical Long Bridge in the town of Uzunköprü in Edirne.
Uzunköprü Mayor Enis İşbilen said to the AA reporter that the historical stone bridge built in 1444 during the Ottoman period was 1392 meters long, 6,80 meters wide and had 174 arches.
Stating that the bridge is remarkable in terms of physical properties, Isbilen said:
“The bridge is the longest bridge in the world. We need to make use of this historical work, which was built in the 15th century, in terms of tourism. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism will apply for the Long Bridge to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We have been working for this for years. There is a temporary part of the list and a noble part that is permanent. Our aim is to be located in the permanent part, but to take part in the permanent part, the bridge must be restored in its original form. ”
“Vehicles over three tons cannot pass”

If it is included in the 2015 investments of the Long Bridge highways, our UNESCO World Cultural Heritage studies will be accelerated. Our Minister of Health Mehmet Müezzinoğlu has information on the subject. We are sure that we will see the support of our minister in this regard as well. ”
Isbilen, the list of the bridge is important in terms of regional tourism, he stressed.
Stating that the situation of the Ergene River prevents people from spending time on the bridge and its surroundings, İşbilen said:
“The river flows through the middle eye of our bridge. If the river is cleaned, mobility will increase around the bridge in terms of tourism and economy. Social areas can be created around the bridge. The contribution of Meriç, Tunca and Arda rivers to Edirne is enormous. The fact that the Karaağaç location in Edirne is located by the river has revealed many social situations. I hope we will make our traders and tradesmen laugh as the historical bridge is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. ”
