Trabzon Light Rail System Project is being implemented in order to strengthen Trabzon's transportation infrastructure and provide citizens with a faster and more comfortable transportation service.
A protocol will be signed between the General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality officials on Wednesday, April 24, for the project, which is aimed to be started in a short time by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
31,9 stations will be created on the rail system line that will be implemented on the 56 kilometer route between Akçaabat and Yomra districts.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu told the AA correspondent that the rail system line project, which was presented to the Ministry by Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality on March 17, 2022, was given an appropriate opinion on September 27, 2022.
Uraloğlu stated that the Metropolitan Municipality later requested the transfer of the work in question to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
Stating that the request was accepted, Uraloğlu emphasized that the project was transferred to the Ministry with the Presidential decision published in the Official Gazette on October 17, 2023.
Uraloğlu said, “Trabzon Light Rail System Project is a very important project for Trabzon. With this project, we will provide fast and comfortable transportation between Akçaabat, Meydan region, Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon Bus Terminal, Trabzon Airport and Yomra district. "The project is aimed to reach a capacity of 2040 thousand 10 passengers in one direction at peak hour in 990."
Explaining that the project will be implemented between Akçaabat and Yomra, Uraloğlu said:
“A rail system line will be established to meet the travel demand between Akçaabat district, Meydan region, Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon Bus Terminal, Trabzon Airport and Yomra district. Work for the survey project tender of the Trabzon Rail System Line Project has been completed. "After the signatures are signed, we plan to hold the tender and start the survey project work."
