  • 1980 – The Process Leading to the September 12, 1980 Coup in Turkey (1979 - September 12, 1980): An American non-commissioned officer and a Turkish friend were killed by left-wing militants Ahmet Saner and Kadir Tandoğan in Istanbul. A police officer in Gaziantep, 2 students in Mardin, a teacher in Aydın, and 2 workers in Ankara and Istanbul were killed.
  • 1982 – Former CHP Chairman Bülent Ecevit was arrested by the Martial Law Military Court.

  • 1996 – Chechen group of 50 people under the command of Emir Khattab killed 223 Russian soldiers and destroyed a 50-vehicle convoy. This event is known in history as the Castle Ambush.

  • 2001 – Mehmet Fidancı, who is stated to be one of the suspects in the assassination of former Diyarbakır Police Chief, Gaffar Okkan, was caught in Istanbul.
