“If there is violence in healthcare, there is no service”

As a result of the increase in violence in the field of healthcare throughout Turkey, the reaction of healthcare personnel who are exposed to violence and live in fear of this violence at all times has also changed. SES Branch No. 2 Co-Chair Başak Edge Gürkan stated that, according to Law No. 6331, employees in every sector have the right to withdraw from service in a situation that threatens their life safety, and said, "This limit has already been exceeded in health."

TWO VIOLENT INCIDENTS OCCURRED AT BAYRAKLI CITY HOSPITAL ON THE SAME NIGHT!

The Employer's Duty is to Ensure the Life Safety of His Employees
Gürkan said in his statement to the Science and Health News Agency, “This slogan appeared after the increasing incidents of violence. As a result, the employer must ensure the life safety of his employees in all work areas. The employee has the right to withdraw from service in situations that threaten his or her life safety. Violence in healthcare has exceeded this limit. The Ministry of Health is implementing the Health Transformation program designed a long time ago. In this system, the concept of patient is replaced by the concept of 'customer'. The current Government implemented this program very well. While this system is implemented, the reputation of all healthcare professionals is undermined. Of course, patients also suffer from the harm caused by this system. Patients cannot reach the hospital where they will receive health care. Health personnel are crushed under workload, mobbing and violence. This system also brings violence in healthcare. When the patient cannot somehow solve his problem within the system, he feels entitled to resort to violence. Izmir Bayraklı There are huge public and university hospitals such as the City Hospital. Tens of thousands of patients and their relatives enter these hospitals every day. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Health, Provincial Health Directorates and hospital managements cannot ensure the safety of these hospitals.”
