Deutsche Bahn Cancels the Most Popular Line

Deutsche Bahn in the North Rhine-Westphalia region is undergoing a significant route change that will affect passengers. The direct ICE connection from Basel to Amsterdam and through North Rhine-Westphalia will be temporarily cancelled.

Traveling by train is more popular than ever, especially thanks to the popularity of the Deutschlandticket. However, the situation is different for passengers on the ICE train line from Basel to Amsterdam via North Rhine-Westphalia.

The direct ICE train connection between Basel and Amsterdam is being cancelled, at least temporarily. This will directly affect residents of North Rhine-Westphalia who prefer to travel on holiday by train. Among the reasons for the cancellation are long-term construction works that disrupt train services.

The lines between Frankfurt-Mannheim and Arnhem-Duisburg are particularly affected.

Starting July 16, passengers will find that ICE trains from Basel to Amsterdam will not operate throughout the day. However, night connections are expected to continue during periods when construction work is stopped. Deutsche Bahn is looking for alternative solutions to offer adequate mobility to passengers.

Deutsche Bahn is considering canceling the Basel-Amsterdam line altogether, and a new high-speed train connection between Amsterdam and Munich is planned instead. This means that not only passengers from North Rhine-Westphalia are affected, but also Deutsche Bahn's overall strategic planning.
