China's latest designed high-speed train model, CR450, can reach a speed of 400 kilometers per hour.

China State Railways Group Limited Company stated that the CR450 innovation project is progressing rapidly and that a prototype of the high-speed train will roll off the assembly line later this year.

The new model will be significantly faster than the CR350 Fuxing high-speed trains currently in service, which run at 400 kilometers per hour.

Compared to the CR400, the CR450 is 12 percent lighter, consumes 20 percent less energy and has 20 percent better braking performance, according to the group's data.

In its statement, the group noted that the CR450 innovation project also includes technological innovation in infrastructure, including high-speed railways, bridges and tunnels.

China has built the world's largest high-speed railway network to meet the public's growing demand for convenient and comfortable travel.

The total operational length of the high-speed rail network exceeds 45.000 kilometers, while Fuxing high-speed trains operate in 31 prefecture-level regions across the country.
