The Journey from Sports Schools to the National Team

The Metropolitan Municipality, which enables the training of new champions from Kocaeli, the Capital of Sports, with its Free Sports Schools, brings young talents to Turkish sports as high-level athletes in accordance with international standards, with the great support it provides to sports and athletes.

8-year-old Ali Mete Dere, a student of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Sports Schools and Bilgievi, represented our city in the Turkey Junior and Junior Chess Championship as the Kocaeli Chess Champion. In the championship held in Antalya, Ali Mete received the same score as the third among 240 athletes and became the fourth in Türkiye.

HE WAS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN THE NATIONAL TEAM

Ali Mete, who was discovered at a very young age in the Free Sports Schools of the Metropolitan Municipality, made Kocaeli proud as a national athlete after his successful performance in chess. Ali Mete, who achieved success in the championship, was entitled to join the National Chess Team. Telling his story of meeting Free Sports Schools, Ali Mete said, “When I was five and a half years old, I attended chess lessons with my sister as a guest. When I saw that the classes were fun, I started to come more often and I wanted to enroll in Sports Schools. "I improved myself by receiving a very good education here," he said.

HE SUCCESSFULLY GOT A LICENSE AT THE AGE OF 6

Stating that he learned chess very soon after starting lessons at Sports Schools, Ali Mete said, “I wanted to be a licensed athlete like my sister who participated in tournaments. I got my first license when I was 6 years old. I got good results in many tournaments held in the same year. The successes I achieved made me a better actor and I started working harder. I became the Kocaeli champion in the second year of the tournaments. "I represented our province in the Turkish Championship and became the fourth in Türkiye by getting the same score as the third," he said.

Stating that there were great changes in his life after he met chess, Ali Mete said, “I received medals and cups. I achieved success in award-winning tournaments. "I love the game of chess, I have big goals, I want to achieve them all," he said. Stating that the opportunities in Free Sports Schools are many and that the teachers care about them, Ali Mete said, “I recommend Sports Schools to my friends because very good training is given here. They can also make new friendships here. They make a lot of friends, especially in chess. "They will also develop their minds," he said.
