Tesla Celebrates its 10th Anniversary in China with 1,7 Million Vehicles

Tesla celebrates its 10th anniversary in China with 1,7 million vehicles. In the Chinese message published on Tesla's Weibo account, “10 years ago today, we delivered our flagship Coupe Model S to 15 consumers who were at the forefront of their time. “Today, 10 years later, we serve more than 1,7 million Tesla owners in China.”

On April 22, 2014, Tesla CEO Elon Musk handed over the keys of the Model S to the first Chinese owners, including Xiaomi founder Lei Jun and Li Auto founder Li Xiang. Last month, Xiaomi launched its first EV model, the SU3, which is a strong competitor to the Model 7. Li Auto's vehicles also compete with Model Y.

Tesla started construction of its Shanghai factory on January 7, 2019 and put the facility into operation at the end of 2019. This investment was the first automobile production project with entirely foreign capital in China.
