Şadi Özdemir, who was elected as the Mayor of Nilüfer in the 31 March Local Elections, took over the chairmanship from Turgay Erdem with a ceremony after receiving his certificate of registration. Participation in the handover ceremony at Nilüfer Municipality Public House was large.
The handover was made at the Nilüfer Municipality Office. Former President Turgay Erdem gave the presidential seal to Şadi Özdemir and wished him success in his new position. Şadi Özdemir also thanked Turgay Erdem and promised to carry Nilüfer higher than where he received her.
Erdem and Özdemir presented each other with gifts to commemorate the day. After the handover of the office, a ceremony was held at Nilüfer Cumhuriyet Square in front of the People's House.
CHP Bursa Deputies Orhan Sarıbal, Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, Hasan Öztürk, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey and his wife Seden Bozbey, Gemlik Mayor Şükrü Deviren, CHP Bursa Provincial Mayor Nihat Yeşiltaş, CHP Nilüfer District Mayor Özgür Şahin as well as Nilüfer Municipality attended the ceremony. Members of Parliament and many party members attended. Şadi Özdemir, his wife Nuray Özdemir, his son Cem Özdemir and his daughter-in-law Nehir Özdemir did not leave him alone at the ceremony.
Turgay Erdem, who delivered the task, made the first speech at the ceremony. Stating that he has mixed emotions, Turgay Erdem said, “I am both sad and happy. I say goodbye to Nilüfer Municipality, where I spent 15 years as vice mayor and the last 5 years as president. I think I have collected beautiful things and beautiful people. We have had very difficult times, especially in the last 5 years. I could not have survived these difficult times without their devoted efforts. "I would like to thank my deputy mayors, managers, consultants, special secretary team and all the personnel working in the municipality," he said.
Turgay Erdem stated that they supported Şadi Özdemir during his candidacy process and said, “I think that, as successor and predecessor, we have given an exemplary picture not only to the city but also to the politics of the country in the last 40 days. I am happy that, despite the fact that politics is full of vicious conflicts and personal grudges, we made people say that it can be like this. Another happiness of mine is that the seat is not going to a stranger. I am handing over my duty to someone I have known for years, whose paths often cross in politics, with whom we work together from time to time, and who is very suitable for Nilüfer's genetics. In his speech, Şadi Özdemir, the 5th Mayor of Nilüfer, promised to carry Nilüfer to a better future. Mayor Şadi Özdemir said, “Of course, one day I will make a farewell speech like this. I will act by sitting in this chair with this awareness. Our aim is to add to the good work done so far. To carry our Nilüfer to the future together. I am honored to take over such a task. I would like to thank all our mayors, managers and all our employees who have worked so far. We will work to raise the bar of Mustafa Bozbey and Turgay Erdem's brand city even higher. If we are together, we will succeed, so I expect the support of all my colleagues. Everyone will feel brotherhood, freedom, happiness and peace in every corner of our city. "Just as we made Nilüfer an exemplary city, we will make Bursa an exemplary world city, I promise you," he said.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey also spoke at the ceremony. Stating that he was honored to serve Nilüfer for 20 years, Mustafa Bozbey said, “We worked together in this city for a long time. While working, we saw that we left very good traces in this city. We did the right things together, touched everyone, and acted sensitively to solve everyone's problems. Most importantly, we treated them all like humans. We have seen a lot of reward for this. 16 districts in Bursa wanted to be like Nilüfer and receive the services here, we promised. Whatever we did in Nilüfer, we will do it for children, women, young people and disabled people throughout Bursa. Together with the Metropolitan Municipality, we will support and raise the bar set by Şadi Mayor. Don't worry, we are with you as the Metropolitan Municipality. CHP Provincial Chairman Nihat Yeşiltaş also thanked all CHP members who contributed to the success of power in Bursa after 47 years. Yeşiltaş said, “We succeeded, we will succeed again. This flag will now fly from Bursa Metropolitan Municipality to all of Bursa. "The social municipalism and populist municipalism implemented by CHP all over Turkey will be reciprocated by the society," he said.
CHP Nilüfer District Chairman Özgür Şahin also drew attention to the success achieved and thanked everyone who contributed.
After the speeches, Nilüfer Mayor Şadi Özdemir and his wife Nuray Özdemir thanked the Erdem couple and sent them off from the ceremony area.
