Historical Trip to Mudanya from University Students

Within the scope of the "Architectural Comparisons of Byzantine and Ottoman Period Buildings" project carried out in cooperation with Frankfurt Goethe University, Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and Middle East Technical University (METU), architecture faculty students visited Mudanya, Kumyaka and Tirilye. Accompanied by the academics who carried out the project, the students examined Kumyaka Archangels Church, Tirilye Cultural Center, Taş School, Dündar House, Kemerli Church, Fatih Mosque and Tirilye Bath. After the historical trip, the results obtained by the students will be announced through a virtual exhibition.

Stating that they organized many trips within the scope of the research project, METU Faculty of Architecture Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Pelin Yoncacı said, “Within the scope of the research project, we carried out a research project in which Ottoman and Byzantine works were discussed by students and their developments, continuities and interruptions were discussed.” said.

ITU Faculty of Architecture Lecturer Assoc. Dr. Bilge Ar stated that the project is about the education and networking of graduate students and said, "During the trips, our students exchange information among themselves according to their fields of expertise." Underlining that they have given various tasks to students within the scope of the program, which has been going on for two years, Ar said, "Within the scope of these tasks, our students will complete the informative posters, which they will complete both visually and through archive research, with a virtual exhibition."

Stating that they made a trip to Istanbul, Bursa and Tirilye within the scope of the project, ITU Architectural History student Ömer Faruk Ulusoy said that they were preparing for the exhibition they will hold within the scope of the subjects included in the project by examining the Ottoman and Byzantine heritage. Mudanya Municipal Council members Nilgün Arslanoğlu, Jale Büyükurgancı and the staff of the Directorate of Culture and Social Affairs accompanied the tour.
