Opening by Prof. Dr. Made by Nevzat Tarhan

The congress, which will last for 2 days at Üsküdar University Central Campus Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall, was attended by Congress President and Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Deputy Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Lecturer Member Elif Kurtuluş Anarat and Congress General Secretary, Positive Psychology Coordinator Dr. Lecturer It started with the opening speeches of member Fatma Turan.

“At first it was thought to be life coaching and personal development…”

In the program broadcast live on ÜÜTV, Congress President and Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that positive psychology was initially thought to be life coaching and personal development and was asked about its theoretical basis and said, "The theoretical foundations of positive psychology are based on neuroscience." said. Prof. noted that he wrote books on preventive mental health in the 2000s because there was a paradigm shift in medicine. Dr. Tarhan said, “The most important thing in the changing paradigm in health is; protection of health.” he said. Pointing out the importance of working to prevent people from getting sick, Tarhan said, “Primary protection is to protect health so that the society does not get sick. Secondary prevention is to identify risk groups, diagnose risk groups early and include them in treatment. "After treatment, tertiary prevention is also working to prevent recurrence..." he said.

"Instead of creating wounds in traumas, the era of how to treat trauma without causing wounds has emerged..."

Prof. noted that the method of treating wounds without causing wounds has become ideal in medicine. Dr. Tarhan: “What is the equivalent of treating without causing wounds in psychiatry? In psychoanalysis, we delve into a person's childhood. Some problems are taken and brought to this day. The person becomes an enemy to his mother and father. When the trauma cannot be resolved, more noisy situations may occur. In many cases, the unnecessary descent into childhood has passed. The era of medicine that respects people's traumas has begun. Instead of revealing the traumas and opening the wound, how can it be treated without opening the wound? This period emerged.” he explained. Stating that the ideal treatment is treatment without interfering with the person's traumas, Prof. Dr. Tarhan said that by strengthening the positive, the negative can be corrected.

Within the scope of the opening speeches, Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör drew attention to the studies carried out as a university in this field:

“As Üsküdar University, we are happy to touch different subjects, handle science from different aspects and add many different touches to education. Maybe this is our difference. I evaluate the training we provide within the scope of positive psychology and the scientific activities we carry out in this context. While the world is going worse and negative in many ways, we want to slow down this process a little and contribute to its improvement with positive touches. We had such a goal when we decided to take the positive psychology course. We have positive psychology courses in all departments of our university. We didn't stop there, we also wanted to have a scientific activity. While we were explaining positive psychology to our students in classrooms, we also wanted to have a broad scientific platform on this subject. We have created an environment for scientific discussion, starting first at the national level and then spreading to the international level, and we have started to host it. “We want to contribute whatever we can to the course of humanity and the betterment of the world, and we will continue to do so.”
