Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall is Standing Up

Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall, whose construction was completed and put into service in Bursa in 1972, which witnessed important memories in the recent history of the city, but which was demolished in 2020 in line with risk reports because it had completed its economic life, is being revived by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. After the demolition, a national architectural project competition was organized by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and Bursa Chamber of Architects, and the most suitable project for the sports hall was determined by the jury members. Work on the Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall, which is an important value for the city, started with the groundbreaking ceremony. The new hall will include areas such as a FIBA-approved basketball court with a capacity of 3100 people, where basketball super league matches can be played, locker rooms, fitness center, branch gyms, and a closed parking lot. The hall, built with the support of the Super Toto Organization Directorate of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will be an important center of attraction with its new modern architecture. The ceremony was attended by Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, Bursa Governor Mahmut Demirtaş, AK Party Deputy Chairman and Bursa Deputy Efkan Ala, Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank and Refik Özen, AK Party Provincial Chairman Davut Gürkan, Investment General Manager of Businesses Prof. Dr. Süleyman Şahin, Osmangazi Mayor Mustafa Dündar and young athletes attended.

“WE ARE WORKING TO INCREASE YOUTH INTEREST IN SPORTS”
Speaking at the ceremony, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that sports is an important activity that heals the soul and body and adds strength and meaning to life. Stating that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has an athlete identity, important investments have been made regarding sports, Mayor Aktaş stated that many investments have been made in Bursa in this regard. Stating that Bursa will continue to be a friend of sports, athletes and young people, Mayor Aktaş said, “We are working to increase the interest of young generations in sports. Our biggest dream is to bring together the people of Bursa with all sports branches. That's why we built many gyms on specialized subjects and today Bursa is much stronger than yesterday. Büyükşehir Belediyespor is our source of pride with its 26 thousand 4 licensed athletes, 17 thousand 2023 active sports athletes, 69 national athletes, 250 branch coaches and active staff in its branches as of 2 in 250 branches, 124 sports complexes, 99 sports facilities. "Our volleyball team in the Efeler League, 'Girls of Poyraz', who achieved promotion to the Women's Handball Super League in its first year, is fighting very well," he said.

Explaining that they have brought many investments to the city since the day they took office, Mayor Aktaş reminded that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has great support and contributions. Vakıf Bera sports facilities, Cerrah District sports facility, Mustafakemalpaşa youth center social life and sports facilities, Akçalar football field, Archery hall, Emek Hatice Kübra İlgün youth and sports facility, Panayır District sports facilities, Yenibağlar sports facility and youth center, Millet District youth Stating that there are many investments such as sports center and sports center, İnegölspor facilities, Orhaneli youth camp and many more, Mayor Aktaş stated that there are countless works under construction. Mayor Aktaş said, “We introduce sports to nearly 5 thousand young people who have never done sports in their lives within the scope of summer and winter sports schools, sports organizations and sports festivals. We are doing important work to keep our ancestral sports alive. We also financially support amateur sports clubs. Last year, we provided a total of 520 million 4 thousand TL support to 500 sports clubs in Bursa. This year, we provided a total of 533 million TL in cash aid to 8 amateur sports clubs. Doing these activities and fields brings success. "As a local administrator, I am very happy with this situation," he said.

Stating that he was very excited and happy about the Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall project, Mayor Aktaş stated that the hall, which served the city for years and had memories in the lives of many people like him, was demolished because it had reached the end of its economic life. Stating that they opened a project competition in cooperation with academic chambers, Mayor Aktaş said, “I would like to thank the Bursa Chamber of Architects for their support. As a result of the competition, this project emerged. The area, which has a total construction area of ​​18 thousand 720 square meters, includes a basketball court with a capacity of 3100 people and various units. We will put the New Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall at the service of our city in the same location in the coming period. I would like to thank our Minister for his support to this project and other projects. "I wish good luck to our Bursa, young people, children and clubs," he said.

“LET'S ALL HANG THE NAME OF ATATURK HERE”
Stating that he was faced with unimaginable manifestations in this process, Mayor Aktaş said, “Our nation knows this mentality very well. While demolishing the hall, they made the perception that we would not build a new one, as if we were demolishing a solid hall that had not worn out. They stated that we demolished this place because of the name 'Atatürk'. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is not under anyone's monopoly. We also support Atatürk. We also protect our ancestors Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi. All the restorations we have done are visible. They've been doing the same things for years. I call out to all members of other parties who make comments about me. I hope that at the opening of the hall, we will all hang the name 'Atatürk' here again with great pride and honor. "I hope we can put this gym at the service of the people of Bursa," he said.

Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak stated that Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş has made great sports investments in Bursa. Stating that one of these is the Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall, Minister Bak said, “I also have memories here. Bursa is a sports city with its Bursaspor, Sönmez Filamenti, Tofaş, Oyak Renault and now the legendary Poyrazın Kızları. Such a beautiful gym would suit the center of the city. We thank our president. Despite all the rumors, he worked tirelessly. We do business. We provide service. We produce works. The work we have done together with the Metropolitan Municipality and district municipalities in Bursa is obvious. We opened new works in Bursa two weeks ago. We do all this for our young people. "Alinur Aktaş also works non-stop and tirelessly for young people," he said.

Stating that Turkey is experiencing a sports revolution, Minister Bak said that the works done in the last 22 years under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are obvious. Stating that thousands of facilities have been built and continue to be built, Bak said, “We are also renewing old facilities. Atatürk Indoor Sports Hall also fulfilled its duty and hosted legendary competitions. It was redesigned by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality to serve the people of Bursa again. A magnificent facility emerges with its lounges and swimming pool. We will continue to support. With the investments we made, we taught swimming to 10 million children. Internationally successful athletes began to emerge. Our children were kept away from bad habits. Parents should bring their children to these facilities. Bursa is a sports city, Bursa deserves such investments. "I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this hall," he said.

AK Party Deputy Chairman and Bursa Deputy Efkan Ala reminded that there is a team in Bursa that cares about young people and tries to do the best for them. Efkan Ala: “Service is our job.
