Mayor Akgün: “We Saved the Lives of More than 160 Thousand People”

In Büyükçekmece, where more than 50 thousand houses have been demolished and renovated within the scope of urban transformation to date, the demolition of 33 buildings consisting of 4 independent sections has started with the cooperation of the municipality and citizens.

Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün and Rumeli University Lecturer and Advisor to the President Prof. Dr. During the demolitions that took place with the participation of İlhan Osmanşahin, the ongoing constructions within the scope of urban transformation in the region were also inspected.

“IT IS THE ONLY ISTANBUL METROPOLITAN MUNICIPAL COUNCIL THAT CLOSES THE WAY FOR US”

Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Hasan Akgün stated that urban transformation works are continuing without slowing down and made the following statement: “We continue urban transformation on an island basis in Büyükçekmece. Today we are demolishing 4 blocks and also checking the construction. Since saving the lives of our citizens is our most important job, we will not sleep until we demolish all the old buildings in Büyükçekmece and build new ones. A good system works in Büyükçekmece. We say to the citizens; Look at your next door neighbor, they have completed urban transformation. Go to their homes, find out who their contractors are. Are they satisfied or not? If they are happy with their contractor, continue with the same contractor. Find out what the deficiencies, mistakes, and excesses are. So, contractor-citizen, start your cooperation with your neighbor first. Benefit from their experience. We have renovated 51 thousand houses so far. We saved the lives of more than 160 thousand people. We will complete the urban transformation in Büyükçekmece by 2029. The only thing blocking our way is the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council. "Since the IMM Council did not prepare the zoning plans of the Kumburgaz coast, Tepecik, Türkoba and Çayırlar, we could not engage in the urban transformation of these citizens."

Mayor Akgün also said that they established the Büyükçekmece Municipality Concrete and Soil Laboratory, which is a project that will set an example for all municipalities. Thanks to the established laboratory, the municipality will carry out ground and concrete studies in a much healthier and more powerful way.

“EVERYONE IS SHOWING THEIR BEST EFFORT”

Seismologist, Rumeli University Lecturer and Advisor to the President, Earthquake Scientist Prof. Dr. İlhan Osmanşahin, Büyükçekmece Mayor Dr. Stating that he was the consultant of Hasan Akgün; “Of course, I am trying to provide support regarding earthquakes and urban transformation in my own position. When we look at it today, we can say that we are walking as the district that pioneers urban transformation in Istanbul. For this region, of course, in our central part, the urban transformation work in the central neighborhoods of Büyükçekmece has exceeded approximately 70 percent, more than 50 thousand, almost 60 thousand houses have been renewed. Of course, this renovation is being carried out well not only in terms of strengthening the buildings but also in terms of the vision of the city and the infrastructure. The concrete and soil laboratory will be put into operation in the laboratory in the near future in order to implement stronger controls. Strict control is of course very important in ensuring that the relevant employees do not violate the rules. Knowing that such a control is being carried out is of course ensuring that people can continue to work properly. It is very important to do so. We attach great importance to information at this stage. We will organize separate meetings in our neighborhoods and provide information. "Everyone concerned is doing their best to create an earthquake-resistant city, let our people be sure of this," he said.
