“What We Saw Couldn't Be Explained”

At the February Ordinary Meeting of Efes Selçuk Municipal Council, Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel and municipal council members commemorated those who lost their lives in the February 6 Earthquake and expressed their wishes.

Speaking in the wishes and wishes section of the council meeting where the items on the agenda were discussed, Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel said, “Exactly one year ago, when we woke up in the morning on February 6, we were faced with the disaster that occurred in 11 provinces. Frankly speaking, the earthquake made all of us question some things and ask ourselves, "What can we do?" "It was an important point where we all showed an example of solidarity," he said.

Reminding that he went to the earthquake zone shortly after February 6, Mayor Ceritoğlu Sengel said; “As a citizen who went to the earthquake area, I say that it was impossible to explain what we saw. According to the information we received, Hatay has still not recovered. One of the most important principles should be that we will not experience such pain again, and that the problems there are solved as soon as possible. As a matter of fact, the citizen went through a period where he felt very lonely. I hope the problems will be solved as soon as possible. "My condolences to our country again," he said.

Council members also commemorated the February 6 Earthquake and expressed their hope that such pain would never happen again.

On the other hand, Efes Selçuk Municipality, which woke up with the earthquake disaster on the morning of February 6, 2023 and took action without wasting any time with Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel's call for unity and solidarity, showed an important example of solidarity with the great support of its people.

Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel, who ensured that the aid collected in solidarity with the people of the district reached the earthquake zone, also frequently went to the earthquake zone and shared the pain of the citizens affected by the earthquake.

Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel hosted the conference on the city resistant to disaster risks in Efes Selçuk after the earthquake and organized a workshop on this subject. In addition, in Efes Selçuk, where the Disaster Directorate was established, plans and preparations were made against possible earthquakes and an earthquake commission was formed.
