Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, which provides free sports courses in 7 different branches so that everyone from 70 to 23 can do sports in Denizli, introduced sports to the city in 2023. In this context, Denizli Metropolitan Municipality will organize free courses in sports facilities in 2023 in athletics, badminton, ballet, basketball, ice skating, gymnastics, children's zumba, wrestling, judo, karate, skiing, table tennis, breathing exercises, archery, pilates, chess, step aerobics. He gave training in taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, yoga, swimming and zumba branches. While the sports courses given throughout the year with the slogan "There will be no one left without doing sports in Denizli" attracted great interest from the citizens, a total of 91 thousand 970 people received training. While sports courses attracted particular attention from children, women and young people, the most preferred courses were swimming, pilates, zumba and yoga, respectively.
Athletes left their mark on 2023
On the other hand, athletes who were discovered in the courses and became licensed athletes of Denizli Büyükşehir Belediyespor achieved great success in the national and international competitions they participated in in 2023. Finishing the Spor Toto Super League 2022 in second place, Denizli Büyükşehir Belediyespor Women's Judo Team qualified to compete in the European Club Championship. Athlete with Down syndrome, Hacer Nur Altınok, came 2nd in Türkiye in swimming, İbrahim Burhan in 200 m. breaststroke style and Mehmet Sarhanlı 50 m. backstroke, 100 m. backstroke and 200 m. He became the Turkish Champion on backstroke. In triathlon, Azra Selin Sert became the Turkish Champion in the 100th Year Regional League Turkey Final, and Ekin Kovan became the 2nd in Turkey. Archer Abdullah Yorulmaz, who participated in the 2024 Paralympic Games Athlete Pool Selection Competition, came 2nd in Turkey.
Great success in swimming
In the Visually Impaired Turkish Swimming Championship, swimming team athlete Elfin Pehlivan and Dilan Çam, who participated in the Belt Wrestling Seniors Turkey Championship, received the gold medal as the Turkish Champion. In the Open Water Swimming Races, Deniz Kılınç and Eymen Utku Çavdar became the National Open Water Turkish Champions in their categories. Participating in the 10-Year-Old National Development Project League Regional Championship, the Swimming Relay Team became the regional champion in all races. Abdullah Yorulmaz, who participated in the 2023 Para Archery Federation Cup with Reyhan Oğuz in the Youth Turkish Judo Championship, came 2nd in Turkey. Deniz Kılınç competed in the 200 m, 400 m, 800 m and 1500 m races in the Turkey Arena Inter-Club Short Course Junior, Junior and Open Age Swimming Championships. He became the Turkish Champion in freestyle.
