AK Party Istanbul Candidate Announced

Candidate selection work continues in the AK Party before the March 31 local elections. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will announce the AK Party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor candidate, which the public has been eagerly awaiting, at the candidate promotion meeting to be held tomorrow at the Haliç Congress Center. The meeting will start at 14:12. Mayoral candidates of 16 metropolitan cities and XNUMX provinces will also be announced at the critical meeting. Murat Kurum, the former Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, is considered a candidate for Istanbul.

Before the official announcement, Murat Kurum said the following in his speech to his team regarding his candidacy:

“We will go out with our team, with all my friends. We will come out for 16 million Istanbulites. Here, with our entire team, with all our friends, you have been working with me for a long time, to eliminate Istanbul's chaos, disorder, and our people's anxiety about earthquake risk. It is certain that President Erdoğan will announce the Institution at the candidate introductory meeting tomorrow.

In addition to AK Party Istanbul Deputy Murat Kurum, the names of Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya and Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan were also mentioned for the long-awaited Istanbul candidacy.

At the meeting where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will address the party members, the mayoral candidates will be introduced in alphabetical order. The remaining 46 mayoral candidates will be announced in Ankara on January 15, 2024. The AK Party's election manifesto will also be announced at the meeting in Ankara.

Cooperation talks for local elections are also continuing. AK Party staff will meet again with officials from the Welfare, DSP and Grand Unity Party at the beginning of the week. It is expected that possible collaborations will be clarified during these appointments. Re-Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan said that they only talked about the alliance in the metropolitan mayoral elections in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir.

WHO IS MURAT KURUM?

Murat Kurum was born in Ankara in 1976. He also completed his primary and secondary education here. Kurum, who graduated from Konya Selçuk University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Department of Civil Engineering in 1999, completed his master's degree on Urban Transformation at Okan University Institute of Science and Technology in 2017.

Murat Kurum, who worked in various private organizations between 1999 and 2005, worked as an expert at TOKİ Ankara Implementation Department between 2005 and 2006, as an expert at TOKİ Istanbul Implementation Department European Side Implementation Branch Directorate between 2006 and 2009, and as an expert at T.R. between 2009 and 2018. After serving as the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change between 2018 and 2023, he was elected as the 28th Term AK Party Istanbul Deputy.
