Young people trained in IBB Technology Workshops and selected for the IBBTech Team are preparing for the international robot races to be held in Romania and Estonia. IMM's young inventors will compete in two competitions in the Humanoid Robots and Girls' Firefighting categories.

Young people who completed the 2023 training of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Technology Workshops and were selected to the IBBTech team receive advanced technology training. Advanced technology courses on artificial intelligence, robotic programming and design are offered throughout the year. Young people come together three days a week at the Cemal Kamacı Technology Workshop, created just for them, and prepare for international technology competitions.

THE ADVENTURE STARTED WITH REWARDS

The young people, who returned with awards from the competitions they participated in for the first time last year, will represent Istanbul and IBB Technology Workshops in two more international competitions in November. İBBTech members are working hard for the competition. İBBTech Captain Sinem Ünlü stated that they are working in 3 teams for the competitions they will participate in. Pointing out that one team was preparing for the Robotex International competition to be held in Estonia, the other team was preparing for the Robochallenge competition to be held in Romania, and one team was preparing for the First Robotics Competition (FRC), the young captain said, “We participated in three competitions last year. The first one was FRC Istanbul Regional and we won the quality award there. Later, we participated in İTÜRO (Istanbul Technical University Robotics Olympics) and came first. We received third place and a special jury award in the Robotex Türkiye Championship. "As a result, we are going to Estonia to participate in Robotex's international competition," he said.

FIRST OVERSEAS COMPETITION WILL BE IN ROMANIA, 3 – 5 NOVEMBER

İBBTech students will first participate in the Robochallenge event in Romania between 3 and 5 November and compete in the "Humanoid Robot and Mini Sumo" categories. Ömer Berk Ergin, one of the team members who will take part in the Robochallenge competition, stated that they will go to Romania with a team of six people. Stating that they will compete with two robots here and that they are divided into two groups of three people, Ergin said, “Currently, we are preparing to overcome obstacles by climbing stairs for our robot, and then there will be a distance where we need to walk the robot. Then we will prepare the robot for the mini sumo section. "We work three or four days a week, 3 to 4 hours after school," he said.

ANOTHER TEAM WILL ALSO COMPETE IN ESTONIA

Another team of İBBTech will participate in the Robotex İntentaional competition to be held in Estonia between 15 - 19 November. The team participated in this competition and received the third place and jury special award in the Turkish Championship held in Antalya last April. İBBTech students will compete with a team of five people in the Girls' Firefighting category in Estonia.

Simay Avcı, one of the team members, said the following about the competition and preparations:

“There are many categories, but we compete in the girls' firefighter categories. They give us a certain amount of time and we are asked to extinguish 5 candles randomly placed on the field. "We have built an exact replica of the field here in Estonia, and we are continuing our preparations by testing our robot in the field."
