STM developed the Roll Damping System, which enables ships to operate safely in all weather and sea conditions, locally and nationally for the first time in Turkey.
STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc. has added a new one to its critical localization and nationalization steps in the field of military maritime. Collaborating with its strong ecosystem in the national ship industry, STM has brought to Turkey a system that was previously supplied from abroad.
With the cooperation between STM and Robotek Automation Technologies LTD, surface warships; For the first time in Turkey, it managed to develop the Yall Damping System, which enables platforms to continue their combat missions safely under adverse environmental conditions by dampening the forces they are exposed to due to external factors such as wind, wave, current and storm, with local and national resources.
Having left the design and production phase behind, the Roll Damping System will be integrated into two corvettes within the scope of an export project carried out by STM. Thus, the Yaw Damping System will be used for the first time by a local company in an export project using national resources. The system in question is expected to be integrated into MİLGEM 6-7-8 ships within the scope of Turkey's national frigate project.
Güleryüz: We Prevented Millions of Dollars from Leaving Our Country with National Flattery
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz pointed out that the basis of the fully independent defense industry goals lies in nationalization efforts and continued as follows:
“As STM, we see it as a national duty to produce advanced technologies in areas that are not produced in Turkey, locally and nationally, and bring them to our country. We fulfilled the localization task we received in our country's national ship project MİLGEMs in the best possible way and increased the localization rate, which was around 15 percent in the first ship, to over 80 percent when we reached the last ship. We managed to nationalize the Yaw Damping System, which is a reflection of our strong ecosystem, for the first time in Turkey and included it in our export project. We can compare the Roll Damping System, which is mounted on the underwater part of the ship, that is, the hull, to the fins of a fish. These fins come into play in heavy weather and sea conditions and support the stabilization of the ship. We have also gained the ability to design roll damping systems in different sizes and capacities for military surface platforms with different displacements. By eliminating the need for this system to be procured from abroad, we have prevented the outflow of foreign currency from our country. “We will continue to provide critical systems to the Turkish defense industry and the Turkish Armed Forces.”
Will Increase Ship Performance in Wavy Seas
The national Roll Damping System, developed to provide resistance to the ship's excessive yawing in both directions, provides ships with the ability to operate in rough seas. The Roll Damping System, which increases the safety of the personnel and the operational efficiency of the platform, minimizes the movements that occur as a result of the difficult sea conditions and sudden maneuvering movements that the ship will encounter in cruising and combat situations. The Roll Damping System, which provides support for weapon stabilization during helicopter operations and shooting, and for supply, material and personnel transfer at sea, stands out with its design resistant to harsh sea conditions and automatic and adaptive operating features.
