STM ensured that the Helicopter Visual Landing Support Lighting System (HEGİDAS) used on warships was produced for the first time in Turkey with domestic and national resources. The developed system will be used on Turkish Navy ships and military ship export projects.
STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc., which develops innovative and national solutions in line with Turkey's goal of a fully independent defense industry, has undertaken a critical localization and nationalization move in the field of military maritime. The Helicopter Visual Landing Support Lighting System (HEGIDAS), which is used on surface warships and has been supplied from abroad to date, was brought to Turkey with the localization efforts of STM.
First Export Success
HEGİDAS, jointly developed by STM and Berkin Defense Industry Engineering Trade Inc., can be used in all military surface platforms, especially in the National Ship Project MİLGEM in the country. STM will integrate the domestically developed HEGIDAS system into two corvettes within the scope of an export project it is currently carrying out. Thus, the HEGIDAS system, developed for the first time by a domestic company using national resources, will also achieve export success.
Güleryüz: We used to buy from abroad, now we develop it locally
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated that STM has undertaken pioneering turnkey projects from design to construction in the field of military naval projects in Turkey and said:
“We nationalize not only the construction of our ships, but also the critical systems used on the platforms with our strong domestic ecosystem. We were previously supplying the HEGIDAS system, which allows helicopters to land safely on the ship, from abroad as it was not produced in Turkey. With the HEGIDAS System we developed together with Berkin Defense, we have introduced a local and national product in this field for the first time in Turkey. The HEGIDAS we have developed is capable of competing with its counterparts in the world arena in terms of making the job of helicopter pilots easier, taking quick action in field operations, and being progressive and modern. In this way, we will further increase the localization rate of our ships both for the Turkish Navy and in our export projects. We are currently integrating the HEGIDAS system into two corvettes in our international export project. Then, we plan to equip our national frigate project, MİLGEM 6-7-8, with this national system. With HEGIDAS, we not only gained an advanced technological capability, prevented the outflow of foreign currency from our country, but also supported our exports with high added value. The Eyes and Ears of Helicopter Pilots: HEGIDAS
HEGIDAS, which consists of visual guidance and flight deck lighting equipment and includes software that ensures that the system equipment operates in the appropriate configuration, plays a critical role in helping pilots safely approach and land the helicopter on the ship. With locally and nationally developed HEGIDAS, helicopters will be able to land safely on the ship in both day and night operations. HEGIDAS, which allows pilots to operate safely at night when visibility conditions are not suitable, minimizes the pilot workload. HEGIDAS can be used on all military surface platforms, including corvettes, frigates, logistics support or tanker ships with helicopter platforms.
