The construction works of the Southern Ring Road, which was designed to regulate Trabzon's inner city and transit traffic, started on Monday, May 1, with a ceremony attended by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Karaismailoğlu, General Manager of Highways, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, deputies, bureaucrats and people from Trabzon.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Karaismailoğlu stated that the Southern Ring Road, which is designed with a length of 43,8 km, will serve the traffic with 2×3 lanes, divided road standard. Karaismailoğlu said that the ring road to be implemented between the Çarşıbaşı-Akçaabat State Road Junction and the Yomra-Arsin State Road junction will surround the Trabzon city center from the south.

Noting that the project, which was built as the shining giant project of Trabzon, will be built in three parts, Karaismailoğlu said, “We are starting the construction work on the 16,5 km long 1 km of the ring road in the first stage. This first part will leave Akçakale and pass south of the existing coastal road, north of Kavaklı and Düzköy, and end at Sera Lake Junction. In the 1st stage, there are 14,5 double tube tunnels with a total length of 7 km and 968 viaducts with a length of 7 meters. Karaismailoğlu stated that 35,8 km of the Southern Ring Road will be passed through 15 tunnels and 2,1 km of it will be passed with 14 viaducts, and that, thanks to the project, urban and transit traffic will be separated from each other in the part of the Black Sea Coastal Road between Akçaabat and Arsin; He stated that the fast and uninterrupted flow of national and international traffic over the ring road will be established, and the density on the coast will be eliminated.

Speaking at the ceremony, Uraloğlu finished the Black Sea Coastal Road, which is the important artery of Trabzon, in 2007, and in the east-west direction of Trabzon, from Sarp to Istanbul to the Mediterranean to Ankara, some sections are two-way and some sections three-way. reminded that it is connected by a divided road standard in the form of three arrivals.

Stating that Trabzon also developed in parallel with the development of the country, Uraloğlu said that as the General Directorate of Highways, they followed the traffic composition in Trabzon.

The project of the 16-kilometer section at the west entrance was completed and the construction process was started.

Emphasizing that the average daily traffic from Akçaabat, Söğütlü, Trabzon center to Yomra, Arsin, starts from 30 thousand and reaches up to 77 thousand, Uraloğlu said that they have designed and replanned the ring road in a way that will fully meet the developing needs of the city.
