Medical Park Tokat Hospital Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mesut Orhan gave information about hypertension. Orhan gave information about hypertension. Underlining that there are two types of hypertension disease, Dr. Dr. Orhan stated that there are primary (primary) and secondary (secondary) types of hypertension.

Stating that primary hypertension, also called essential hypertension, means the blood pressure in the cardiovascular system is constantly high. Dr. “High blood pressure can cause damage over time by putting too much pressure on the walls of blood vessels. It can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, stroke and other health problems. The diagnosis of primary (essential) hypertension is made by measuring blood pressure. Blood pressure consists of two numbers, upper (systolic) and lower (diastolic). "Normal blood pressure is considered 120/80 mmHg, while a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or higher is considered high."

Explaining the causes of primary (primary) hypertension, Dr. Dr. Orhan said, “Although the cause of primary hypertension is not known exactly, genetic and environmental factors are thought to be effective. Factors such as age, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, salt intake, stress and alcohol consumption can increase the risk of essential hypertension.

Stating that secondary hypertension types occur due to a specific reason, Uzm. Dr. Orhan says, “For example, kidney disease, a disease of the adrenal glands or the use of drugs can cause high blood pressure. This type of hypertension is called secondary hypertension.

exp. Dr. Mesut Orhan listed the symptoms of hypertension as follows:

“Fatigue, nausea, headache, stress, nosebleeds after physical activities, dizziness, irritability, weakness, heart palpitations, blurred vision, puffy eyes, frequent urination at night, anxiety, sleep problems, hearing problems, emotional problems , rapid and irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, edema in the body.”

Referring to the ways of treatment, Dr. Dr. Orhan said, “In order to reduce the potential risks of primary hypertension, it is important to measure blood pressure regularly, make lifestyle changes (exercise regularly, eat healthy, limit salt and alcohol consumption) and regularly apply the medication recommended by your doctor. Treatment can be with lifestyle changes and medications. Lifestyle changes include measures such as losing weight, exercising regularly, limiting salt intake, and reducing alcohol consumption. Medication may include a variety of medications that help lower blood pressure. In the treatment of primary hypertension, it is recommended to make lifestyle changes, to use medication or a combination of both. The treatment protocol is determined individually and may vary according to the age, gender, general health status, use of other drugs and high blood pressure level of the person.

exp. Dr. Orhan listed the steps that can be applied in the treatment of primary hypertension as follows:

“Lifestyle changes: It is recommended that the person measure their blood pressure regularly and adopt a healthy lifestyle. This means exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, limiting salt and alcohol consumption, not smoking, and reducing stress.

Smoking and alcohol are very effective on risk factors. For this reason, it should be left in a short time.

The use of more than 6 grams of salt per day is also among the risk factors. This value should not be exceeded. Excess salt causes water retention and increases the rate of fluid in the body.

Proper nutrition allows to take precautions about risk factors. Spicy, fast food, salty, oily foods should be avoided. Instead, grain and fiber products should be preferred. Proper nutrition is very important to prevent risk factors within the scope of blood pressure treatment.

Physical activities both provide weight control and provide a healthy life within the scope of blood pressure treatment. Depending on the person's preference, it would be appropriate to exercise outdoors or in the gym a few days a week. Regular exercise also prevents other problems from occurring.

Medicines should be used regularly

In addition to medication, support can be provided with electrophoresis, phytotherapy, acupuncture, psychotherapy and auditory training.”
