The ancient Buddhist temple, located on the historical Silk Road in China, is being transferred to the digital environment. The Dafo temple in Gansu province was built in 1098 during the Western Xia Dynasty (1038-1227). The Great Buddha Hall inside the temple, 30 figures in the Buddhism Library, frescoes larger than 530 square meters, bricks and carvings have been transferred to the digital world. Wang Kang, head of the Zhangye Giant Buddha Temple Cultural Artifacts Institute, said that when the works are completed, visitors will be able to see the state of the temple in different dynasties, the construction process of the great Buddha and the Buddhist legends on the frescoes in the new digital gallery.

Stating that renovation and reconstruction works were carried out in the temple during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), Wang informed that all these processes can be watched by visitors. Stating that the second floor of the Great Buddha Hall is currently closed, Wang said, “In the future, people will be able to see all parts of the hall digitally. "The work will also be expanded to include other items and buildings in the temple complex," he said.
