Making the Historical Bazaar and Inns District more visible with the Çarşıbaşı Urban Transformation Project in Bursa, the Metropolitan Municipality has also made the Ertuğrulbey Square, which is surrounded by inns, mosques and bazaars in the same region, worthy of the region.

The Historical Bazaar and Inns Area, which is one of the values ​​in Bursa's UNESCO World Heritage List, gains its real value with the investments of the Metropolitan Municipality. The Historical Bazaar and Inns District, which is a complete open air museum with 14 inns, 1 covered bazaar, 13 covered bazaars, 7 covered bazaars, 11 market areas, 4 mosques, 21 civil architectural structures, 177 school and 1 tombs. The historical transformation continues at a rapid pace. With the Çarşıbaşı Urban Design Project, the Metropolitan Municipality, which will add 3 thousand square meters of land, 9 thousand square meters of which is green, to the region, on the other hand, has also completed the arrangement works in Ertuğrulbey Square.

Historical texture came to the fore

Ertuğrulbey Square, which is surrounded by Cumhuriyet Street, Geyve Han, Commodity Exchange, Fidan Han, Ertuğrul Bey Mosque and Yorgancılar Bazaar, has brought the historical texture of the region to the forefront with the comprehensive arrangement works made from floor tiles to urban furniture. Within the scope of the project, a total area of ​​1 square meters, including 3.500 cafeteria, cafeteria open area, toilets, lecture halls, green areas and hard floors, was completely overhauled. While the cafeteria and toilets were arranged as a walkable terrace, the upper levels of the buildings were also evaluated with the green space and seating units.

The opening left in the floor covering above the 2300-year-old burial chamber of the Bithynian period, located at the lower level of the square floor, was covered with glass, making the historical structure visible. With the project, Ertuğrulbey Square has turned into a privileged area where the citizens visiting the historical bazaar can breathe.

Added value to the region

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that besides the ongoing Çarşıbaşı Urban Transformation Project, they considered the Historical Bazaar and the Inns Area as a whole. Stating that the arrangements made in Ertuğrulbey Square also add value to the region, Mayor Aktaş said, “With the works carried out in Ertuğrulbey Square, which connects Cumhuriyet Caddesi and the historical bazaar, the historical texture of the region, such as inns and bazaars, was made more perceptible. In addition, the square added a special value to the historical area with its floor arrangement and urban furniture.”
