Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) is producing a meaningful documentary about the process after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that stifled Turkey and the social activities carried out by DEU in the region. The preview of the documentary 'Solidarity of the Century in the Disaster of the Century', prepared under the leadership of the DEU Rectorate, was held at the DEU Continuing Education Center (DEU) July 15 Martyrs Hall. The documentary, which is dedicated to the students of Dokuz Eylül University, who were in the provinces affected by the earthquake and lost their lives in the disaster, will be disseminated in the future and will be shown in various channels.

Dokuz Eylul University (DEU), one of Turkey's respected higher education institutions, is making a meaningful documentary about the process after the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that took place on February 6 and shocked Turkey and the activities carried out by DEU in the region. The preview of the documentary 'Solidarity of the Century in the Disaster of the Century', prepared by the Press and Public Relations Coordinator under the leadership of the DEU Rectorate, was held at DEU Continuing Education Center (DEU) July 15 Martyrs Hall. In the preview, where emotional moments were experienced, DEU Rector Prof. Dr. Besides Nükhet Hotar; İzmir Provincial Director of National Education Dr. Murat Mücahit Yentür, İzmir Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Naciye Gökçen Kaya, DEU academic and administrative staff and guests attended.

50 MINUTES DOCUMENTARY

Immediately after the earthquake disaster that caused great losses, DEU, which took action with all its units, started a comprehensive aid mobilization for the disaster area. DEU, which has implemented important social responsibility projects, providing health services, humanitarian aid, clean drinking water, shelter and food support for earthquake victims in many earthquake-affected provinces, has produced a 50-minute documentary this time.

SOLIDARITY ASSESSMENT

Speaking at the preview of the documentary, DEU Rector Prof. Dr. Nükhet Hotar noted that the documentary, which is planned to consist of three parts, consists of interviews with Dokuz Eylül University members, as well as videos and photographs recorded by DEU members. Rector Hotar said, “In the first part, the first moment of the earthquake; In the third part, we tried to reflect the works we carried out in the region into the documentary. We named our documentary 'Solidarity of the Century in the Disaster of the Century' in order to emphasize this aspect of our nation, which showed exemplary solidarity in the disaster that saddened us all and was referred to as the 'disaster of the century'.

Dedicated to DEU STUDENTS WHO LOSE

Dedicated to 13 Dokuz Eylul University students, who were in the provinces affected by the earthquake and lost their lives in the disaster, the documentary production will be completed and disseminated in the near future and will be screened in various channels. Emphasizing that DEU will continue its projects within the framework of its social contribution mission, Rector Hotar said, “We, as Dokuz Eylül University, tried to heal the wounds as much as we could in different fields during this difficult process where our state has mobilized its resources to the fullest. We dedicate this documentary film to our students who lost their lives in the earthquakes and then to all our citizens who lost it. May God not let us experience such a great disaster again. Giving the chance to prepare the documentary specifically for our University, he has been involved in the search and rescue, health care, delivery of aid, distribution and healing of wounds in the earthquake zone since the first day; carried out studies in the region to obtain post-earthquake data and to carry out scientific research; volunteering to carry out social and educational activities in temporary accommodation units established in the disaster area; I would like to thank all of our members who produced the common kitchen, distance education applications, water treatment unit and many ideas that we brought into service with the facilities of our University in order to make the lives of our citizens affected by the earthquake easier in these areas. As the DEU family, we once again commemorate our citizens who lost their lives in the earthquake with mercy, and convey our best wishes to our citizens who were affected by the disaster.”
