The works in the construction of the "Ulus Cultural Center and Grand Bazaar Dolmus Stops", which are among the projects of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality that will bring Ulus Historical City Center back to its feet, have been completed at a rate of 80 percent. With the project, which is planned to solve the parking problem of the region, the exhibition hall, commercial areas and the Visually Impaired Museum will be brought to the Capital.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which has renewed the buildings in Ulus, the historical region of the capital, in accordance with its texture, continues to add new projects to make the area a center of attraction.

The Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage continues to work on the Ulus Cultural Center Grand Bazaar and Dolmus Stations project, which it started in Hacı Bayram District. The project, of which 80% of the construction works have been completed, is expected to be completed and put into service this year.

STUDY IS CONDUCTING ACCORDING TO THE HISTORICAL TEXTURE

Bekir Ödemiş, Head of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, stated that they are carrying out a project in accordance with the historical texture and said, “When we look at the Ulus Cultural Center Grand Bazaar and Dolmus Stations Project in general, we have completed about 80 percent of it. If nothing goes wrong, our project will be completed and put into service this year. While 80 percent of the exterior walls are almost finished, we have completed the gypsum plasters at 75 percent. The outer walls of the exhibition hall and the Visually Impaired Museum are finished. Work continues on the mechanical coatings of commercial areas and aluminum facades.

THE PROJECT WILL ALSO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SOLUTION OF THE TRAFFIC AND PARKING PROBLEM

Within the scope of the project, which is planned to solve the traffic and parking problem of the region, work is carried out on an area of 100 thousand square meters. The basement floor of the project was designed as a private car parking lot, and the lower floor and ground floor were designed as minibus stops.

Noting that the traffic in the area will breathe after the completion of the project, Ödemiş said, “One of our most serious problems in Ulus Historical City Center is the traffic and parking problem. With the project, we are taking all of the Keçiören and Mamak minibuses located in the current Bentderesi region indoors here. At the same time, the civilian parking lot here will meet the serious parking needs of the region. Projects that will add value to Ulus will transform Ulus into an important cultural and tourism center of Central Anatolia, Ankara and even Turkey. Within the scope of this project, we will have culture, art venues and exhibition halls that will meet the needs of the tourists coming to this region and our citizens from Ankara.”

IT WILL BE A FIRST IN TURKEY

Ödemiş also said the following about the Visually Impaired Museum, which is a first in Turkey:

“There is the Visually Impaired Museum within the framework of the protocol we signed with Hacettepe University, Anatolian Civilizations Museum and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. It is the first project in Turkey… Again, all local products of Ankara will be exhibited here. A local bazaar, where both our guests and local and foreign tourists can see the values, traditions, customs and products of Ankara, will also serve when the project is completed.”
