Is there any damage to the Erkenek Pond and Irrigation Facility in Malatya?

Following the claims on social media that there were slips in the body section of the Erkenek Pond and Irrigation Facility in Malatya, one of the provinces in the earthquake zone, the following explanation was required.

After the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, 140 dams and ponds in the disaster area were promptly examined by a team of 88 experts from the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works.

The Erkenek Pond and Irrigation Facility, which has been the subject of some allegations on social media, was also inspected on-site, like other dams and ponds.

The committee formed by the DSI Elazig Regional Directorate on February 11, 2023, also examined the pond body, spillway structure, crest and valve room in Erkenek Pond and Irrigation and determined that there was no problem that would pose a danger.

Water was started to be kept in the pond in December 2022 and the facility has not been opened for irrigation yet.

There is no problem threatening environmental safety in the Erkenek Pond, whose water level is currently at a minimum level.

All dams and ponds in the earthquake zone are routinely and meticulously inspected.
